Disneyland Paris Resort guests have noticed something unusual aboard the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Several animatronics have disappeared from the beloved attraction, leaving fans wondering whether Disney has quietly made more changes—or if something else is at play.
Where Did the Pirates Go?

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride has been a staple of Disney Parks since its debut at Disneyland Resort in 1967. Versions of the attraction later opened in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris, bringing swashbuckling adventure to guests worldwide. Over the years, Imagineers have updated the ride to reflect evolving audiences, most notably by adding Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise icon Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and removing the infamous bride auction scene.
But now, one international Disney Park seems to have made additional modifications—without any official announcement. According to reports from PixieDust.be, multiple male pirate animatronics have vanished from Disneyland Paris’s version of the attraction.
Missing in Action
Guests first noticed that a swinging pirate animatronic had been removed months ago. Now, two dueling pirates have also disappeared, with only a black curtain and their swordfight audio remaining. A trio of pirates once singing “A Pirate’s Life for Me” has been reduced to two. Meanwhile, a donkey animatronic that had previously disappeared for maintenance has since returned, raising even more questions about the pirates’ absence.

Disneyland Paris Resort has yet to comment on the missing figures, but their removal is likely due to scheduled maintenance. Attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean undergo routine upkeep to ensure their longevity, and it’s common for animatronics to be taken out for refurbishment before reappearing in their rightful places.
Pirates of the Caribbean: A History of Controversy
Any change to Pirates of the Caribbean sparks conversation, as the attraction has been at the center of debate for years. In the late 2010s, Disney altered the ride to remove the bride auction scene, transforming the once-captive women into independent pirates selling chickens—an homage to the earlier “chick auction” scene.
Despite the change, some guests continued to criticize the ride’s themes. In 2023, a woman went viral for calling Pirates of the Caribbean “a little bit rapey.” Her video received backlash from longtime Disney Parks fans, though some agreed with her take.

“It feels like we’re the entertainment for them, and I do not like it,” one commenter wrote.
“I always felt violated on this ride,” said another.
While it seems unlikely that the recent animatronic removals are connected to past controversies, their absence has left guests speculating. Will they return in their original form, or is Disneyland Paris Resort preparing for more updates?
