After 13 Years, This Disney Cruise Ship Is Getting a Major Glow-up

The Disney Fantasy has been sailing for over a decade. Beloved by families and Disney loyalists alike, it’s long been a cornerstone of the cruise line’s fleet. But now, as Disney Cruise Line expands with new ships and shifting expectations, the Fantasy is preparing for a big transformation.

Disney confirmed on Instagram this week that the Fantasy will undergo a significant round of updates later this year, aligning with a scheduled dry dock period that has already led to canceled sailings between October 20 and November 12, 2025.

While ship refurbishments are a routine part of cruise line operations, the scope of these particular updates suggests something bigger—a visual and operational refresh designed to keep the vessel in line with Disney’s rapidly modernizing fleet.

Disney Updates the Disney Fantasy

Among the most notable additions is the debut of a new funnel suite themed around Fantasia’s Sorcerer Mickey. Set within one of the ship’s iconic red funnels, the suite appears to embrace a whimsical, high-end aesthetic—complete with a sculpted statue of Mickey in his sorcerer’s robes. It’s the latest example of Disney’s shift toward ultra-premium offerings and continues a trend set by the Wish’s Wish Tower Suite.

That trend is also reflected in updates to the Fantasy’s concierge lounge, which will be reimagined with a Hercules theme. It mirrors a similar design found aboard the Disney Dream and brings a dose of Olympian flair to the ship’s most exclusive areas. These design choices aren’t just about fresh paint—they’re part of a larger push to unify the brand’s visual identity across vessels, even as newer ships come online.

Elsewhere, the ship is set to introduce Ramone’s Cantina, a quick-service eatery inspired by the Cars character and serving tacos and bowls by the pool. It’s not flashy, but it taps into the “familiar IP meets easy dining” formula that’s worked so well for Disney elsewhere. Similarly, Senses Spa will receive a design refresh focused on natural textures, with moss walls and modern, open lounge areas aimed at quiet luxury.

A Ship Under Pressure

These enhancements come at a time when the Disney Fantasy has seen its reputation take a hit. Guests have raised concerns over declining service standards, including long waits, inattentive staff, and cleanliness issues.

One guest even claimed they “witnessed someone throwing up multiple times” and saw piles of vomit that “weren’t cleaned.” Whether these were isolated incidents or signs of broader issues, Disney’s recent moves suggest the company is taking the message seriously.
