Disney Destiny Makes Heroic Debut at Meyer Werft

This afternoon, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, the Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s newest vessel, touched open water for the very first time. The float-out marked a major step toward the ship’s upcoming debut and gave fans and cruise enthusiasts their closest look yet at its striking design and Marvel-inspired details.

A Celebration on the Water

The float-out was more than just a shipyard procedure; it was a full celebration. The Disney Destiny was towed slowly from the enclosed building dock, emerging into the sunlight as spectators gathered along the shore. Families, shipyard workers, and Disney representatives all watched as the vessel made her way out, with many cameras ready to capture the moment.

Flares lit the sky, daylight fireworks burst above the ship, and a sense of excitement rippled through the crowd. From their vantage point, attendees could take in every detail of the ship’s hull, funnels, and stern artwork. Seeing it all from so close, especially for the first time, gave the moment a special kind of magic.

New Details Continue to Emerge

While the float-out allowed fans to admire the Disney Destiny’s exterior, Disney has been steadily revealing more about what awaits guests on board. Just yesterday, Disney shared a first look at the Sanctum, a Doctor Strange–inspired space that will bring the mystic arts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life at sea.

Last month, Disney also offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the rehearsal process for the upcoming Hercules musical, promising a lively, humor-filled stage show based on the beloved 1997 animated film. That same reveal included a closer look at the stern installation, with Spider-Man striking a dynamic pose while Spider-Bots cling playfully to the ship’s hull, a perfect nod to the Disney Destiny’s “Heroes and Villains” theme.

Looking Ahead to the Maiden Voyage

With her float-out complete, the Disney Destiny will now undergo sea trials and final preparations before welcoming her first guests. The highly anticipated maiden voyage is set for November 20, 2025, departing from Port Everglades, Florida. Judging by today’s excitement, fans will be more than ready to step aboard this heroic new chapter in Disney Cruise Line history.
