When Avengers Campus debuted at Disney California Adventure on June 4, 2021, it was more than a new land — it was a living chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, replacing A Bug’s Land with a place where fans could step into the action. Now, the story is about to get even bigger.

Walt Disney Imagineering recently announced the first vertical construction milestone for the land’s highly anticipated expansion. “Equipping more guests to become Super Heroes requires equipment! The expansion of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park went vertical this morning with the first steel column lifted into place. New, thrilling attractions will join the campus, doubling its size in the future,” the team shared on Instagram.
Two new experiences will lead this next phase. Avengers Infinity Defense will take recruits to Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City to stop King Thanos after the Avengers’ world-jumping technology goes missing. “Recruits will travel to iconic locations… alongside the likes of big, and small, heroes. You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too,” wrote Disney Parks Blog.

The other major addition, Stark Flight Lab, brings Robert Downey Jr. back as Iron Man. “If you’re up for another mission, Tony Stark has one for you… you’re going to sit in two-person pods and deploy to a test station. Then a robot arm grabs your pod and starts whirling you around in a simulated flight,” Disney Parks Blog shared. Downey Jr.’s return comes as he takes on his second MCU role — Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
These announcements were part of Disney’s Marvel showcase at last year’s D23 Expo, which also included updates for Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

While the future takes shape, the original Avengers Campus continues to deliver action and surprises every day. WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure invites guests to help Peter Parker stop a swarm of Spider-Bots, while Guardians of the Galaxy–Mission: BREAKOUT! sends riders plunging and soaring to the sound of an ever-changing mixtape. At the Ancient Sanctum, Doctor Strange demonstrates mystic arts, and at Avengers Headquarters, heroes like Captain America, Thor, and the Dora Milaje gather beneath the watchful Quinjet.
Dining is an adventure of its own. Pym Test Kitchen serves meals with playful proportions, Shawarma Palace offers a heroic wrap straight from the Avengers’ post-battle feast, and Terran Treats delivers churros and other sweets with a galactic twist.

Character encounters remain one of the land’s biggest draws–Iron Man, Loki, Ant-Man, The Wasp, and even Deadpool, who debuted last year as the first R-rated Marvel character in a Disney theme park, have all made appearances.
With construction underway on Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, Imagineers are expanding on Walt Disney’s promise that Disneyland will never be finished. As the park marks its 70th anniversary, Avengers Campus stands ready for its next mission, and for fans, the adventure is just beginning.
