On Thursday, a classic piece of Frontierland vanished from Magic Kingdom Park just weeks after its long-awaited return. The classic wooden “Frontierland” sign that once hung proudly near a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) kiosk has once again disappeared, leaving behind only a decorative autumn garland.
Disney Fanatic reported that the sign had quietly reappeared in early July 2025, again marking the boundary between Liberty Square and Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom. The hanging wooden sign had been missing for more than two years, during which time it was either refurbished or remade. Walt Disney World Resort did not make any formal announcements about the sign’s return or its previous absence.
When the sign reappeared in July, it appeared to have been given a fresh coat of paint, but still featured the same bold, red “Frontierland” lettering. Its return followed the grand opening of McKim’s Mile House, a new DVC member lounge that replaced the original Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade attraction earlier this year.
However, the sign’s time in Frontierland was short-lived. Just weeks after its reinstallation, the sign was once again removed. According to a report from WDWNT on August 21, 2025, the hanging sign had vanished, and only an autumn garland remained on its wooden post.
Walt Disney World Resort has not released any public statements about the sign’s removal, and the reasoning behind it remains unclear. Many are wondering why the sign would be taken down so soon after its refurbishment, particularly given that another Frontierland-themed sign, the Adventureland/Frontierland sign, was refurbished earlier this year and remains in place.
The sign’s removal comes amid a massive overhaul of Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Rivers of America permanently closed in July. Disney is replacing these classic Magic Kingdom Park attractions with a new Cars (2006)-themed area called Piston Peak National Park.
Walt Disney Imagineers have already begun draining the Rivers of America and demolishing parts of Tom Sawyer Island to make way for the new addition to Frontierland, which will feature a thrilling rally race ride and a family-friendly attraction.
