Warner Bros. has confirmed that Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick. Davis, who charmed audiences as the Hogwarts Charms Professor in the film series, has become the first returning actor officially confirmed for the TV adaptation.
The upcoming HBO series, which has already cast dozens of actors into iconic roles, has been touted as a more “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga. Now, Davis’ return ensures a touchstone for fans familiar with the original Harry Potter films.
However, Davis will not reprise his role as Griphook, a character he previously shared with the late Verne Troyer. Instead, the Gringotts goblin will now be played by Leigh Gill.

The announcement came during the Back to Hogwarts celebration, an annual fan event that takes place on September 1, which celebrates the wizarding world with special reveals and behind-the-scenes content.
Davis’ presence is significant because, while the new series exists in a separate continuity from the movies, his character acts as a bridge that connects the two worlds.
Meanwhile, HBO’s already sizable cast of students and faculty for the series continues to grow. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, supported by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Newly revealed students include Elijah Oshin (Dean Thomas), Finn Stephens (Vincent Crabbe), and William Nash (Gregory Goyle). The Hogwarts staff ensemble is equally vast: John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost takes on Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu steps in as Severus Snape, while Katherine Parkinson, Paul Whitehouse, and Janet McTeer will play Molly Weasley, Argus Filch, and Minerva McGonagall, respectively.

Additional newcomers include Sirine Saba (Pomona Sprout), Richard Durden (Cuthbert Binns), and Bríd Brennan (Poppy Pomfrey).
Warner Bros. has also confirmed that the HBO series is set to premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. With a mixture of returning talent and new faces, the reboot promises a faithful yet refreshing look at the wizarding world, giving longtime Potterheads plenty of nostalgia while providing new fans a chance to explore Rowling’s magical world for the first time.
