Mark Hamill’s journey as the most iconic Jedi Knight may have slowed down on the big screen, but the actor isn’t disappearing from the galaxy entirely. While he has made brief live-action appearances as Luke Skywalker in recent years—most notably throughout the sequel trilogy and as a younger version of his character in The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett (2021)—his future in live-action is increasingly uncertain.
Earlier this year, Hamill told ComicBook.com that he’s unlikely to return as Luke. “Listen, I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the days,” he said, adding, “I never expected it to become a permanent franchise.”

He added, “I had my time, you know, I’m appreciative of that. But I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.” Reflecting on his departure in The Last Jedi (2017), he joked, “By the way, when I disappeared [in The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind, and there’s no way I’m appearing as a naked Force Ghost.”
With few live-action projects on the horizon—outside of The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), an untitled Rey-focused film, and the Ryan Gosling-starring Star Wars: Starfighter (2027)—Hamill has embraced a different form of storytelling: LEGO Star Wars.
He returned as the voice of Luke in last year’s LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy and will reprise the role in the follow-up, Pieces of the Past, premiering on Disney+ on September 19. Watch the official trailer for the new miniseries below:
The new series sees the return of several cast members: Gaten Matarazzo (Sig Greebling), Tony Revolori (Darth Dev), Bobby Moynihan (Jedi Bob), Marsai Martin (Yesi Scala), Michael Cusack (Servo), Ahmed Best (Darth Jar Jar), Ashley Eckstein (BrickHeadz Ahsoka), Ben Schwartz (Jaxxon), and Dan Stevens (Solitus).
According to StarWars.com, the four-part miniseries will expand on the universe “shaken up” in last year’s original, delivering new adventures across multiple timelines in LEGO’s playful multiverse.
For fans, it’s a reminder that while live-action Luke Skywalker may be moving on, Mark Hamill’s voice—and his influence on the Star Wars universe—remains as strong as ever.
