Forget the Beak and Barrel, Disney Fans Want These Themed Locations Instead

By the end of this decade, Walt Disney World will look remarkably different. Four new lands are on the way, transforming some of the resort’s most familiar areas into vibrant destinations filled with characters and adventures.

The journey begins at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Tropical Americas will arrive in 2027. The new land will replace DinoLand U.S.A. and include an Encanto attraction highlighting the Madrigal family’s Casita. The park’s DINOSAUR ride system will also be reimagined for an Indiana Jones adventure, bringing explorers into a new kind of expedition.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing for the debut of Monstropolis, a land inspired by Monsters, Inc. The project will take over the former Muppet*Vision 3D area, offering a variety of family attractions, themed dining, and a unique roller coaster centered on the iconic door chase from the 2001 Pixar film.

Magic Kingdom will see two significant additions. Piston Peak, rooted in the Cars franchise, will be situated near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and feature a mix of attractions for all ages with immersive design. Nearby, the long-awaited Villains Land will finally bring Disney’s rogues into the spotlight. The project will feature at least two attractions, with its design shaped by global architectural influences.

As Disney explained: “These conversations made us realize that it was critical to reflect the look and feel of the characters’ animation in the land’s physical structures and appearance, so we set off to Paris, France, and Barcelona, Spain to learn about each city’s architecture and its unique attributes.”

Fans Imagine Dining Possibilities

While Disney develops new lands, guests are thinking about dining. The arrival of Magic Kingdom’s Beak and Barrel, inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, has sparked conversations across the Walt Disney World subreddit about what other themed venues might work in the parks.

One of the most popular ideas involves the Haunted Mansion. Reddit user Stempdog218 shared: “I would be all in on a Haunted Mansion dining hall/restaurant. Ghosts flying around the room, in character waiters/waitresses, could have different rooms of the restaurant be different rooms from the mansion. What would yours be?”

Another user, rtkane, expanded on the idea: “I think a Haunted Mansion bar like the Beak and Barrel but themed like you have this would be great! Imagine mirrors where a ghost appears, things moving on their own. Creepy sounds and noises. I’d love it!”

Some fans even envisioned Madame Leota interacting with diners, while Lopan suggested a concept for Liberty Square’s Harbor House. His version reimagined the restaurant as Constance’s wedding reception venue, complete with portraits, ghostly visitors, and a banquet hall for gatherings.

Other suggestions included a Tower of Terror dining room at Hollywood Studios, a Mad Tea Party-inspired eatery, and even a Living with the Land restaurant at EPCOT.

A Resort in Transition

Although fan proposals remain wishful thinking, Walt Disney World’s confirmed expansions demonstrate a major investment in new storytelling. By focusing on popular franchises and revitalizing older spaces, the resort is preparing to deliver experiences aimed at what Josh D’Amaro described as “a brand new generation of Disney fans.”

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
