Goodbye Lost Continent: Universal Orlando to Tear Down Iconic Land

The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure has long felt like a land in limbo, and now Universal Orlando has confirmed that its days are numbered. In a carefully worded statement to the Orlando Business Journal, Universal explained that upcoming work in the area is “site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.” Translation? Demolition is imminent.

Permits Confirm the Scope

Supporting that statement are demolition permits that cover five acres of the land. The details point to the removal of retail and attraction spaces, which aligns perfectly with what remains of the Lost Continent—Poseidon’s Fury (already closed), the shuttered Sinbad theater, and the iconic Mythos Restaurant. References to “demolition project 555” leave little room for doubt that this is a large-scale teardown, not a quick update.

One Survivor

Theme park insider “Wallin Ballin” added fuel to the fire with a post on X claiming that only one building would remain once demolition is complete. Fans quickly guessed Mythos, given its reputation as a top theme park dining experience. If it does survive, many believe it will get a heavy re-theme to fit with whatever takes over the land.

What Could Replace It?

Rumors are flying. Lord of the Rings has emerged as one of the strongest possibilities, with fans imagining a walk from Jurassic Park straight into Middle-earth. Others speculate that the land might be absorbed into neighboring areas, like Harry Potter’s Hogsmeade or Jurassic Park. There’s even chatter about Seuss Landing expanding with a Grinch-themed ride—perfect for the holidays but enjoyable all year long.

Waiting for Universal’s Reveal

Right now, all Universal has officially admitted is that demolition is coming and the Lost Continent as we know it will be gone. Whether it’s Tolkien’s fantasy world, an expansion of existing hits, or something brand-new, the land’s replacement is sure to be a major development. For fans, the waiting game has just begun—but one thing’s for sure: Islands of Adventure is about to look very different.
