Disney Confirms Pixar Hiatus, Beginning January 2026

For two decades, Pixar has been more than an animation studio — it has been a cornerstone of Disney’s global theme park strategy.

At Disneyland Paris, that influence is clear. Crush's Coaster opened at the park in 2007, while Toy Story Playland (now just part of Worlds of Pixar) introduced attractions like Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin and RC Racer, giving the resort a new dedicated Pixar zone when it opened in 2010.

Since then, the footprint has grown considerably. The much-maligned Cars Road Trip reimagined what was once the Studio Tram Tour, weaving Pixar storytelling into what had once been seen as one of the park’s weakest offerings, while Ratatouille: L'Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy debuted at the park in 2014 (later inspiring a duplicate version in EPCOT).

These expansions have been essential in reshaping Walt Disney Studios Park, once criticized as lacking depth and cohesion. Live shows, in particular, have become a major part of that effort, bringing Pixar’s emotional beats into theatrical productions that resonate with audiences in new ways. Among them, one musical has emerged as a signature attraction.

A Scheduled Pause for Pixar’s Biggest Stage Hit

TOGETHER: A Pixar Musical Adventure, launched in 2023 as part of the park’s entertainment overhaul, has been hailed as a centerpiece of that strategy. The production weaves together characters and worlds from across Pixar’s catalog through orchestral music, performers, and cinematic staging. Its ambitious format and critical reception positioned it as one of Disney’s strongest theatrical offerings.

Disney has confirmed the show will take an extended break starting January 5, 2026. The scheduled hiatus will last until March 6, part of the company’s rotating entertainment calendar.

For guests visiting during the early months of the year, the closure means one of the park’s most acclaimed offerings will be off the table.

The timing, however, is notable. Its return aligns with a moment of historic significance for the resort, coinciding with a long-awaited expansion that could reshape the entire property.

Expansion Plans Reach Their Peak

That expansion is World of Frozen, a highly anticipated land inspired by the 2013 blockbuster. It will feature rides, restaurants, and an elaborate recreation of Arendelle, designed to rival some of Disney’s most detailed builds worldwide. With its debut, Walt Disney Studios Park will also adopt a new name: Disney Adventure World.

The transformation builds on momentum from Avengers Campus, which opened in 2022 and helped reposition the resort as a destination on par with Disney’s American and Asian parks. Further projects in development include attractions inspired by Tangled (2010), The Lion King (1994), and Up (2009), as well as a lakefront designed for nighttime spectaculars.

For Disney, these additions are more than cosmetic. The park has long faced criticism for being underdeveloped compared with Disneyland Park next door. The current wave of projects — capped by World of Frozen — represents an attempt to address those gaps and compete in the global theme park market.

Against that backdrop, TOGETHER: A Pixar Musical Adventure has become emblematic of the new approach. Even as it pauses, its planned return underlines Disney’s reliance on Pixar storytelling to help anchor a park undergoing its most dramatic evolution yet.
