Disneyland guests hoping to ride “it’s a small world” late into the evening might be surprised tonight — the ride is closing an hour earlier than usual. But don’t worry, it’s for one of the happiest reasons possible. Crews are kicking off the transformation of the attraction into its festive seasonal version, “it’s a small world” Holiday.

The early closure on October 29, with the attraction shutting down at 9 p.m. instead of 10, is a necessary head start for the team behind one of Disneyland’s most beloved annual overlays. This version of the ride has been a holiday tradition for decades, lighting up Fantasyland with a breathtaking display that combines thousands of glittering lights, music, and international decorations.
Once work begins, the attraction will slowly transform into a glowing celebration of global holidays. The façade becomes a colorful tapestry of lights that flicker to life after dark, while inside, every region represented in the attraction adds its own touch of festive flair. From snowy European villages to warm island scenes, each room takes on a cozy, cheerful feel that guests can’t help but smile at.

The holiday overlay officially opens to the public on November 14, 2025, and will continue through January 7, 2026 — long enough for visitors to take part in the joy all season long. The ride’s soundtrack even gets a festive remix, blending “It’s a Small World (After All)” with timeless carols like “Jingle Bells.”
Though it’s never fun to see a ride close early, this one-night change is the first sign that Disneyland’s holiday season is about to begin. That extra hour gives cast members a jumpstart on the massive project that turns an already iconic attraction into something truly breathtaking.

When the lights finally switch on in mid-November, guests will be greeted by a glowing masterpiece that celebrates the spirit of togetherness, kindness, and joy. So while “it’s a small world” may close early tonight, it’s only so that it can reopen brighter — and more magical — than ever.
