Universal is preparing another update for one of its most flexible attractions, confirming that Space Fantasy – The Ride will receive a limited-time DJ overlay early next year.
The announcement arrives as Universal expands projects in multiple regions, including plans for a new theme park in the United Kingdom.
With parks across the globe, Universal has several major developments underway. Hollywood is set to open Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift in 2026, marking the park’s first outdoor high-speed coaster. And in Bedford, the upcoming U.K. park’s concept art also includes a large outdoor coaster (plus a seemingly intriguing array of IP offerings, such as Lord of the Rings and Back to the Future).
DJ Zedd to Lead New Overlay at Universal Studios
Now, one of its older offerings is undergoing a refresh.
Space Fantasy – The Ride opened in 2010 at Universal Studios Japan, replacing E.T. Adventure.
The indoor spinning coaster quickly became known for its projection effects, fiber optics, rotating ride vehicles, and stylized space setting. It has also been one of the park’s most frequently rethemed attractions.
The coaster regularly hosts virtual-reality overlays and limited-time collaborations. Most recently, it operated as the Spy x Family XR Ride. Universal confirmed that this version will conclude before the ride takes on a new identity in early 2026.
Beginning January 30 and running through August 17, the attraction will operate as Space Fantasy – The Ride: CLUB ZEDD REMIX. The seasonal update is built around music produced by DJ and producer Zedd, who has created exclusive tracks for the event.
Universal says the overlay will allow guests to “step inside where powerful music and light take you to spectacular outer space!” The soundtrack will be synchronized with the coaster’s movements to “create a music experience from another dimension.”

Zedd shared his reaction on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Can't believe I get to say this… I’M OPENING MY OWN RIDE AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN!!!” he wrote.
He added that his goal was to “reimagine the Space Fantasy roller coaster into CLUB ZEDD; a brand-new space-club experience,” including “an exclusive DJ mix I created just for the queue.”
High Demand Expected at Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan remains the most-visited non-Disney theme park in the world. As a result, limited-time overlays often see heavy demand. Guests hoping to experience the CLUB ZEDD REMIX version may want to secure an Express Pass that includes the ride.
The Osaka park is known for consistently long standby waits. Popular attractions include Hollywood Dream – The Ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, and Mine Cart Madness, both of which were also replicated at Epic Universe earlier this year.
The CLUB ZEDD REMIX overlay continues Universal’s trend of repurposing existing attractions with short-term, high-interest experiences. For Space Fantasy, it adds another entry to a long list of temporary concepts applied to the coaster since 2010.
