When Universal confirmed earlier this year that Universal Studios Great Britain would open in Bedfordshire sometime in 2031, fans immediately started guessing which attractions might anchor the park. Names like Jurassic World, James Bond, and Paddington have all surfaced. But for many, one franchise feels like a natural fit: Back to the Future.
The Robert Zemeckis-directed 1985 classic is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with a theatrical re-release, reminding audiences of Marty McFly and Doc Brown’s enduring appeal. And though a new attraction hasn’t been confirmed, rumors of a DeLorean-themed coaster or even a full Hill Valley land have captured imaginations.
If Universal is looking for a property that resonates with British audiences, Back to the Future might be the strongest contender. Despite being an American IP, the U.K. has already proven its enthusiasm for the franchise through Back to the Future: The Musical, which opened in the West End in 2021.
The production was an immediate hit, winning the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. It later jumped to Broadway and continues to sell tickets internationally.
That success suggests the appetite for Marty’s adventures isn’t limited to nostalgia — it’s multigenerational. Bringing Hill Valley to the U.K. would give audiences who love the stage show another way to experience the story, this time in an immersive, interactive setting.

Fan concept videos have even visualized an “88 mph” coaster that would tower over the park, featuring a DeLorean ride vehicle racing through time with multiple inversions and spikes. Though completely unofficial, the concept highlights just how strongly fans want to see Back to the Future return to Universal Studios.
Attractions and lands, however, remain unconfirmed. “It is still too early in the process to know the possibilities of featured attractions and experiences,” the studio states on the resort’s official website.
Still, if the past is any indication, Back to the Future has the potential to be one of the resort’s biggest draws. The success of the West End musical proves that the U.K. loves the franchise — and if a ride does appear, it could be a time-traveling hit just like the play.
