Disney World Sees Unusual Number of Ride Closures in One Day

Saturday visits to Walt Disney World typically come with crowds—but January 10 brought something more unexpected. Guests across the resort encountered an unusually high number of temporary ride closures, with attractions cycling offline throughout the day across all four theme parks.

Temporary ride downtime is part of daily operations at Disney World, but what made January 10 notable was the sheer number of attractions affected and how spread out the closures were. Rather than a single ride experiencing delays, guests saw multiple attractions across different parks go offline at various points, making the disruptions hard to avoid.

Magic Kingdom felt the impact early and often. Space Mountain experienced extended periods of downtime during the afternoon, while Prince Charming Regal Carrousel briefly closed later in the day. Peter Pan’s Flight and the PeopleMover were also unavailable for portions of the evening. Each attraction eventually reopened, but the timing caused crowd shifts and increased wait times elsewhere in the park.

EPCOT experienced its own series of interruptions. Journey into Imagination temporarily closed late in the morning, while Test Track went offline in the evening hours before reopening. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind also experienced downtime, which was particularly noticeable given the attraction’s popularity and consistently long waits. Turtle Talk with Crush opened later than expected after starting the day closed, adding another variable for guests navigating EPCOT.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids experienced temporary closures earlier in the day. DINOSAUR closed briefly in the late afternoon, while Kilimanjaro Safaris was unavailable during portions of the evening. Although safari closures after dark are common, the earlier downtime added to the park’s uneven operating day.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios avoided major ride shutdowns, but it wasn’t immune to the effects. As guests adjusted plans across the resort, popular attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster absorbed heavier crowds, pushing wait times higher than expected.

Despite the frustration for guests, there were no indications that the closures were related to long-term maintenance or larger operational issues. Temporary ride closures are often tied to routine safety procedures or technical adjustments, and Disney did not signal any broader concerns.

By the following day, January 11, all affected attractions were operating normally again. For guests visiting on Sunday, the parks returned to a more predictable rhythm. While January 10 proved challenging for some visitors, the disruptions were short-lived and resolved without ongoing impact.
