Disney World Begins Reimagining Cinderella Castle on January 28

Cinderella Castle's transformation from its 50th-anniversary pink appearance back to its original colors officially began January 28, when construction crews began repainting the Magic Kingdom Park icon. The restoration project will continue throughout 2026, eliminating the light pink scheme that remained years after anniversary celebrations concluded.

Crews commenced repainting Cinderella Castle on January 28, BlogMickey reported. A small section of the structure's upper portion transitioned from light pink to gray, marking the first visible progress toward restoring the castle's original color scheme.

Theme park journalist Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) shared the development on X (formerly Twitter):

Whether the gray is primer coating or the final color remains unclear, but it confirms the multi-month restoration has officially begun.

Walt Disney World Resort painted much of Cinderella Castle light pink in 2021 to celebrate the resort's 50th anniversary. A large golden “50” medallion replaced the iconic analog clock during festivities. The medallion was removed when anniversary celebrations officially ended, but the pink color scheme remained for years after.

Walt Disney World Resort announced in the summer of 2025 that Cinderella Castle would be repainted throughout 2026. Disney promised the updated scheme would honor the original design, restoring light gray and blue details that existed before the 50th anniversary makeover. Early signs of refurbishment appeared this month, before painting began. Small paint test patches were applied to assess colors. Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters disappeared from Let the Magic Begin, the park-opening show on Cinderella Castle's stage. Walt Disney World Resort also removed pyrotechnics from the show to accommodate construction work.

Performances of Mickey's Magical Friendship Faire were pushed later in the day, allowing crews morning access to the castle for construction activities.

Equipment Deployment Delayed

Cranes will eventually surround Cinderella Castle, but haven't arrived yet. A delay in draining the moat has seemingly postponed the placement of construction equipment—water remains in areas where machinery will eventually be positioned.

Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the project will be complete by the end of 2026, but hasn't provided a specific timeline for when the restored Magic Kingdom Park icon will be fully revealed.
