Chris Pratt Confirms NEW Details About His MCU Status

Marvel fans aren’t just curious about Chris Pratt’s future in the MCU anymore. At this point, they’re frustrated. And honestly, it’s hard to blame them.

The MCU has moved into a new era, and even though the Guardians storyline ended the way we’ve known it for years, one loose thread has never stopped dangling.

Star-Lord.

For a character who became one of Marvel’s biggest personalities, Peter Quill has been strangely absent from the conversation. Fans have spent months asking when he’ll return, and Marvel has stayed quiet enough to make the silence feel intentional.

But now, we finally got an update.

The catch is that the update didn’t calm anyone down. It just added more fuel to the debate.

Star-Lord Went From Risky Casting to MCU Icon

When Marvel announced Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), it didn’t feel like a guaranteed hit. The team was obscure, the tone leaned comedic, and Chris Pratt wasn’t yet viewed as a “Marvel lead.”

But once the movie hit, the MCU changed.

Pratt’s version of Peter Quill gave Marvel something it didn’t fully have before: a hero who didn’t take himself seriously, even when the stakes were massive. He acted like a regular guy who somehow ended up in space, and that energy made the Guardians instantly different from every other Marvel group.

As the Guardians became a major part of the franchise, Star-Lord became one of the faces people associated with Marvel’s humor-driven era.

Chris Pratt’s Popularity Has Always Come With Drama

Even while Star-Lord became more popular, Pratt’s public image grew more complicated.

Over the years, he’s been criticized online, with debates centered on his personal beliefs and the people he associates with. The controversy has never been simple, and it’s one of those situations where fans are rarely neutral.

Some believe the criticism is justified. Others see it as exaggerated internet outrage.

Either way, the noise has been loud enough that it’s hard not to wonder if Marvel has been cautious about bringing him back. In today’s climate, controversy can shape casting conversations, whether studios admit it or not.

But on the other side, plenty of MCU fans still see Pratt as irreplaceable. They argue that his comedic timing made Star-Lord one of the most entertaining characters Marvel has ever introduced.

Marvel Promised Star-Lord Would Return, Then Went Quiet

The most confusing part of all of this is that Marvel already set expectations.

Chris Pratt’s last appearance in the MCU came in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), and the movie ended with a promise that couldn’t have been clearer: “Star-Lord will return.”

Marvel practically dared fans to start speculating.

Pratt has also expressed eagerness to come back, and he’s hinted that he’s pitched ideas to Marvel about how Quill could appear again, especially in large ensemble films.

But as Marvel ramped up hype for Avengers: Doomsday and names began appearing in official cast announcements, Pratt was omitted. That’s what set off the latest wave of panic among fans.

Chris Pratt Just Delivered the Most Direct Answer Yet

Now, though, Pratt has given fans a new reason to pay attention.

While promoting Mercy (2026), he spoke with Extra TV and confirmed that Marvel plans to fulfill the promise made at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

Pratt said:

“I can tell you it will happen…All I can say is that at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), they made a promise that the legendary Star-Lord will return. And I just know the folks down at Marvel, they always make good on their promises. I can’t tell you when that’s going to be, but I can tell you it will happen.”

It’s not a date, and it’s not a formal announcement. But it is the most explicit confirmation yet that Marvel hasn’t abandoned the character.

They’re just keeping the details locked down.

Doomsday and Secret Wars Are the Two Most Obvious Fits

Marvel hasn’t said exactly where Star-Lord returns, but two upcoming projects make the most sense: Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

Both films are expected to be massive crossover events in which the Multiverse begins to collapse under the pressure of incursions. With that kind of storyline, Marvel will likely bring in as many heroes as possible.

In November 2025, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus claimed Star-Lord was “supposed to be involved” in Doomsday, but he also sounded uncertain about how firm that plan remained.

Marvel didn’t include Pratt in the cast livestream announcement, which opens the door for him to appear later as a surprise—or possibly in a more minor role than fans expect.

Why Secret Wars Could Be Star-Lord’s Biggest Moment Yet

If Quill appears in Doomsday, he could efficiently serve as one of the recruits helping Earth-based heroes fight back against Doctor Doom’s threats while the rest of the Avengers deal with multiversal chaos.

But Secret Wars feels like the more natural comeback.

The rumored Battleworld storyline, where Doctor Doom creates his own universe and rules it, would give Quill an entirely new setting and purpose. Star-Lord thrives when he’s improvising through disaster, and that kind of world could allow him to step into a leadership role.

That idea also has comic roots. In Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 Secret Wars event, Quill played a key role and became one of the survivors who awakened on Battleworld.

If Marvel wants to reinvent Quill after the Guardians trilogy, Secret Wars might be the cleanest way to do it.

Marvel Is Clearly Saving the Reveal for the Right Moment

Pratt’s comments should reassure fans that the promise still stands. But Marvel’s silence suggests the studio wants his return to feel like an event, not a casual cameo.

Maybe Marvel plans to hold him back until the story needs him. Maybe they want to surprise audiences. Or perhaps they’re still figuring out how Quill fits into the post-Guardians MCU.

Either way, one thing seems inevitable.

Marvel isn’t done with Star-Lord. They made a promise, and Chris Pratt just reminded everyone that Marvel still intends to keep it.
