Disney World Reveals Popular Restaurant Will Shut Down in May 2026

Walt Disney World constantly evolves. Attractions change, resorts receive upgrades, and dining experiences sometimes disappear without much warning.

That quiet evolution is happening again.

Guests browsing Disney’s dining reservations recently spotted something unusual. One well-known restaurant that has long been an iconic Disney dining experience will soon go missing from future booking calendars.

Disney has now confirmed that the location will stop serving guests beginning in May 2026.

For many fans, the change could come as a surprise—especially for those who consider the restaurant a must-visit stop during every trip.

How Disney Restaurants Become Vacation Traditions

Dining has become a defining part of a Walt Disney World vacation. While rides often receive the most attention, restaurants shape the daily rhythm of many park visits.

Disney offers an enormous range of dining styles. Some locations provide quick meals between attractions, while others create full culinary experiences with elaborate menus and themed environments.

Signature restaurants are especially popular with returning guests. Dining spots like Be Our Guest, San Angel Inn Restaurante, and Roundup Rodeo BBQ have become destinations in their own right.

Guests often book months in advance to secure a table.

Interestingly, some of Disney’s most beloved restaurants operate outside the parks themselves. Many sit inside resort hotels, where the atmosphere feels calmer and more relaxed.

The Restaurant at the Center of the Change

Disney has confirmed that the signature restaurant located inside Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will cease operations beginning in May 2026.

The restaurant is Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Known for its classic New England steakhouse atmosphere, Yachtsman Steakhouse has built a reputation as one of the most reliable upscale dining options near EPCOT. The restaurant combines nautical décor with a menu centered on premium steaks and seafood.

Beginning in May 2026, however, the restaurant will close for a major refurbishment.

Disney currently expects the closure to last through the summer, with the restaurant reopening sometime in August 2026.

For guests visiting Walt Disney World during the busiest travel months of the year, that means the EPCOT resort area will temporarily lose one of its most recognizable signature dining spots.

For years, Yachtsman Steakhouse has attracted fans who appreciate its quieter dining room and focus on carefully prepared steaks. The restaurant has earned a reputation as a dependable place for a more upscale meal during a Disney vacation.

Although Disney has not released specific details about the refurbishment, the extended closure suggests the restaurant will receive meaningful updates.

Renovations Are Happening Across the Resort

The restaurant closure is only one piece of a larger update underway at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Guests visiting the property recently may have noticed construction taking place around the exterior of the hotel. Disney is completing a major refurbishment to refresh the building and address ongoing maintenance needs.

Large-scale maintenance projects like this are common at Walt Disney World resorts. Disney periodically renovates hotels to maintain their appearance and preserve their theming.

At the Yacht Club, crews are currently working on exterior improvements and structural updates.

Disney expects the larger refurbishment project to continue through late 2026.

Completing the restaurant renovation during the broader resort construction likely allows Disney to streamline the process while crews are already working on site.

For guests staying at the resort during this time, some construction may be visible—but it also means Disney is investing in long-term improvements.

Dining Options Nearby

While Yachtsman Steakhouse will no longer appear on the reservation calendar for a time, guests staying in the EPCOT resort area still have several nearby dining options.

Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts sit next to one another, creating a small cluster of restaurants guests can easily access.

Some alternatives include:

  • Ale & Compass Restaurant (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A sit-down restaurant offering breakfast and dinner with coastal-inspired comfort dishes.

  • Ale & Compass Lounge (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A relaxed lounge serving drinks and smaller plates.

  • The Market at Ale & Compass (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A quick-service location with grab-and-go meals, pastries, and coffee.

  • Cape May Cafe (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A buffet restaurant known for seafood offerings and a character breakfast.

  • Martha’s Vineyard (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A lounge where guests can enjoy drinks and light snacks.

  • Beaches & Cream Soda Shop (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A popular spot famous for burgers and towering ice cream desserts.

Both resorts also sit beside EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance, giving guests easy walking access to World Showcase and its many international restaurants.

A Classic Restaurant Prepares for Its Next Chapter

Restaurant closures can be disappointing, particularly when they affect locations that have become traditions for returning visitors.

However, refurbishments usually signal investment rather than loss.

That appears to be the case with Yachtsman Steakhouse.

The restaurant will close beginning in May 2026 as Disney begins renovation work. When it returns later in the year, guests may find a refreshed version of the familiar steakhouse.

Those updates should help ensure that the restaurant remains one of the EPCOT resort area’s most respected dining destinations.
