Few franchises manage to condense decades of storytelling into a single, playful experience, but LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026) is about to do just that. From the first reveal, it promised not just another LEGO tie-in, but an ambitious open-world reimagining of Gotham City that spans the Caped Crusader’s entire history.
Players will explore iconic locations, solve inventive puzzles, and unlock secrets tucked into every brick, all while inhabiting the characters that define the Dark Knight’s mythos.

But the Bat-Family is the star here. Bruce Wayne/Batman appears in multiple iconic suits, and he’s joined by Commissioner Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. Each playable character offers unique gadgets and abilities, making every encounter in combat or puzzle-solving feel new and essential.
The game isn’t just about the heroes, though. Villains loom large, including Joker, Bane, and Penguin, all rendered with LEGO flair. Other familiar faces like Alfred also appear, filling out a city that’s as rich in narrative callbacks as it is in interactive opportunities.
All the while, players will recognize cinematic nods to Batman’s filmography, from Tim Burton's Batman (1989) to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, recreated in playful LEGO set pieces.
TT Games has made it clear this isn’t a typical LEGO adventure. The open-world design, combined with story-led missions and side activities, ensures that each corner of Gotham is a playground for discovery.
Players can drive Batmobiles, swing grappling hooks, and tackle crimes at their own pace, making for an experience that’s both expansive and meticulously detailed.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is developed by TT Games, published by Warner Bros. Games, and stars Shai Matheson as Bruce Wayne alongside Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) as Bane. It releases May 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for later in the year.
