Universal Orlando Resort has spent years evolving away from the version of Universal Studios Florida that longtime fans once knew. Entire themed areas have disappeared, classic attractions have been replaced, and newer thrill rides now dominate much of the park’s identity. But through all of those changes, one attraction has continued standing almost untouched: E.T. Adventure.
Now, even that classic appears to be seeing operational cutbacks.
According to Inside Universal on X, Universal delayed the opening of both E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land until 11 a.m. today, despite Universal Studios Florida officially opening an hour earlier.
“At least for today, E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land will open at 11am; an hour after the park’s official opening time. @UniversalORL”

For some guests, losing access to one ride for an hour may not sound like a huge issue. But for families visiting Universal Orlando with younger children, the impact is actually much larger than it first appears.
E.T. Adventure Plays a Bigger Role Than Most Guests Realize
E.T. Adventure is not just another attraction operating quietly in the back corner of Universal Studios Florida. Right now, it holds a unique place inside the park.
With Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show currently closed for a major reimagining, E.T. Adventure has become the only remaining Opening Day attraction still operating at Universal Studios Florida. That alone gives the ride a special status among longtime fans.
But operationally, the attraction matters even more than that.
E.T. Adventure has one of the shortest height requirements anywhere in the park. As Universal has leaned harder into thrill rides, simulators, and more intense attractions, options for younger children have slowly become more limited.
That is part of the reason DreamWorks Land became such an important addition for families.
The problem is that DreamWorks Land was also delayed from opening this morning.

Families Lose Major Options During Rope Drop
For families arriving early, that first hour inside the park matters a lot.
Most guests rope drop attractions because morning hours typically bring lower wait times, cooler temperatures, and easier navigation through the park before crowds build later in the day. Families with toddlers often rely on that early window to experience attractions before younger kids become tired or overstimulated.
But when both E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land remain closed, many of those families suddenly lose some of their only available attractions.
For children under 34 inches tall, Universal Studios Florida already has fewer ride options compared to Disney parks. Taking away E.T. Adventure during the first operational hour only shrinks those choices further.
That is why some fans online immediately reacted strongly to the delayed opening.
Universal Has Adjusted Attraction Hours Before
To be fair, this is not entirely new for Universal Orlando.
The resort has reduced attraction hours before, especially during slower attendance periods or when operational staffing shifts occur. Entire sections of parks have occasionally opened later than official park opening times.
But E.T. Adventure feels different because of what the attraction represents.
This is one of the few remaining pieces of “classic” Universal Studios Florida. While newer attractions focus heavily on screens, fast launches, and massive intellectual properties, E.T. Adventure still feels slower, emotional, and personal in a way many fans miss.
Parents who rode the attraction decades ago now bring their own children to experience it.
That emotional connection makes even temporary operational reductions stand out more than they normally would.

The “Part-Time” Feeling Is Already Worrying Fans
Even though Universal only adjusted the ride’s schedule “for today,” some longtime fans are already nervous about what it could mean moving forward.
Theme park fans tend to pay close attention when operational changes start affecting older attractions. Reduced hours can sometimes be viewed as simple staffing decisions, but they can also trigger concerns about long-term priorities.
Universal Orlando is clearly focused on expansion right now.
Epic Universe has completely shifted the resort’s center of attention. New lands, advanced ride systems, and modern franchises are driving the future of the company. At the same time, classic attractions across Universal Studios Florida continue disappearing or being reimagined.
Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt has already been demolished. Fast & Furious: Supercharged is heading toward closure in 2027. Horror Make-Up Show is being heavily reworked.
That leaves E.T. Adventure standing almost alone as one of the last major remnants of classic Universal Studios Florida.
So when guests suddenly see the ride effectively operating on a reduced schedule, even temporarily, it immediately sparks concern.
Guests Expect Attractions To Operate During Posted Hours
The biggest frustration for many visitors comes down to value.
Theme park vacations are expensive. Many families only visit Universal Orlando once every few years, and some only spend a single day inside Universal Studios Florida. When guests purchase tickets, they generally expect attractions to operate throughout the full posted park hours unless weather or technical problems interfere.
That expectation becomes even stronger for iconic attractions like E.T. Adventure.
Losing access to a major family ride during one of the most valuable parts of the operating day naturally frustrates some guests, especially when attraction options for smaller children are already limited.
For now, Universal has not announced any long-term operational changes for E.T. Adventure. But even a one-hour delayed opening managed to spark major conversation among fans who view the attraction as one of the most important remaining pieces of Universal Orlando history.
