Major Disney Ride Closures Begin as Parks Battle Dangerous Temperatures

Extreme heat is forcing changes at Disney parks.

High temperatures have affected Disney destinations this week, with heat warnings leading to changes across attractions and entertainment. While summer weather is expected at theme parks, the current conditions have created challenges for daily operations.

Several Disney parks around the world are dealing with unusually high temperatures. At Walt Disney World Resort, heat advisories have already been issued for multiple days this week, with the heat index expected to reach as high as 111 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Florida resort also faced severe weather risks on June 19, with Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and other Disney World parks placed under a Marginal Risk for Severe Storms. The National Weather Service warned of possible wind gusts, hail, heavy rainfall, and a minor tornado risk.

Disneyland Paris has also been impacted by the heatwave, with parts of France placed under a severe high temperature warning. Temperatures exceeded 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with forecasts predicting highs of 104 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday.

Disney Makes Changes During Heat Warning

The extreme heat has already affected entertainment at Disneyland Paris.

Disney Stars on Parade ran with fewer characters than usual, with all costumed characters removed except Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Olaf. Some outdoor character meet-and-greets were also changed, with face characters replacing costumed performers.

The changes were made as Disney adjusted outdoor experiences during the heat warning. Outdoor entertainment can be affected by extreme temperatures, particularly when performers are wearing costumes or spending long periods outside.

The heat has also affected attractions, with several rides temporarily closing at Disneyland Paris.

Several Disney Rides Temporarily Close

Attractions including Indiana Jones et le Temple du PƩril, Le Pays des Contes de FƩes, Autopia, Disneyland Railroad, and Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain experienced closures during the heatwave.

The affected attractions are either fully outdoors or include outdoor sections. Extreme heat can impact ride systems, sensors, safety checks, and other equipment, meaning attractions may temporarily close while conditions are assessed.

Weather-related ride closures are not uncommon at theme parks, but widespread closures caused by extreme heat can create major disruptions for guests.

As temperatures continue to rise, Disney parks are expected to keep monitoring conditions and making changes where needed to maintain safe operations.
