Disney World: Fire Shuts Down EPCOT Area Location as Guests Evacuated

Guests visiting Walt Disney World's EPCOT resort area experienced an unexpected disruption on Thursday, June 25, after a fire led to precautionary evacuations at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort.

The fire originated inside Bourbon Steak, the luxury steakhouse housed within the Dolphin Resort. Images posted across social media appeared alarming, showing heavy smoke escaping the building, but officials say the blaze itself remained limited.

A public relations representative told WKMG ClickOrlando that the fire was confined to the restaurant's kitchen. “Pictures make it seem the fire was much larger than it was, as the ventilation system is meant to push smoke outside,” the statement explains. The representative added that there was “no damage to the hotel and only in the restaurant.”

One Reddit post highlighted just how noticeable the smoke was from outside the resort, prompting concern among guests nearby.

To ensure guest safety, management temporarily cleared the resort lobby and several guest room floors while emergency personnel assessed the situation. After receiving the all-clear, guests were allowed back into the hotel. Officials confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident.

Located between EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Walt Disney World Dolphin has become one of the area's landmark hotels. Although it operates independently from Disney under Marriott management, it has partnered with Disney for decades alongside the neighboring Swan Resort.

Since opening in 1990, the hotel has become known for Michael Graves' distinctive architectural style, featuring giant dolphin sculptures, vibrant colors, and one of the most recognizable skylines at Walt Disney World. Guests also receive a variety of Disney Resort benefits despite the property's independent ownership, including early park admission and access to Disney's Skyliner network.

For guests searching for an elevated dining experience, Bourbon Steak has long ranked among the resort area's standout restaurants. Created by celebrity chef Michael Mina, the restaurant focuses on premium steaks, including prime and Wagyu offerings, complemented by a menu of bourbon, whiskey, and handcrafted cocktails.

Its location inside the Dolphin has made it especially popular with convention guests, Annual Passholders, and visitors celebrating special occasions while remaining close to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The restaurant is currently closed as crews inspect the kitchen following Thursday's incident. Since the resort confirmed the damage did not extend beyond Bourbon Steak, guests with future dining reservations should contact the Swan and Dolphin to determine whether their bookings will be affected.

Meanwhile, the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort remains open, with its other restaurants continuing to welcome guests throughout the temporary closure.

We will keep an eye on updates from the resort and report back when a reopening timeline is announced.
