The competition between Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando continues to grow, and the latest battle isn't centered on a new roller coaster or themed land. Instead, it's happening after the sun goes down.
Universal has announced Universal Nights at Epic Universe, a separately ticketed evening event that shares several similarities with Disney After Hours while introducing a few ideas of its own.

Although both experiences are designed for guests looking to avoid daytime crowds, they aren't identical.
Epic Universe Gets Its Own Premium Nighttime Experience
Universal Nights will debut with two scheduled dates this October. Guests can enter Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m., with exclusive event access running from 9 p.m. until midnight.
Disney fans will immediately recognize the format. Disney After Hours also allows guests into the parks several hours before the exclusive event begins, giving visitors extra value beyond the official event window.

However, Universal is taking advantage of something unique to Epic Universe.
Early entry lines up with Universal Celestial Goodnight, allowing event guests to enjoy the park's nighttime spectacular before transitioning into the private event. That creates a different flow than Disney's After Hours events, which primarily focus on attractions once regular guests begin leaving.
Similar Benefits, Different Strategy
Universal Nights includes attractions, entertainment, character interactions, and complimentary specialty snacks and beverages.
Those offerings closely resemble Disney After Hours, where guests receive unlimited popcorn, bottled drinks, ice cream novelties, and access to attractions with lighter crowds.
The similarities aren't surprising. After-hours events have proven extremely popular because they offer something many guests value more than anything else: time.

Instead of spending much of the day waiting in line, visitors can experience more attractions in fewer hours.
Universal's starting ticket price of $179.99 also places it directly alongside Disney's pricing, signaling that the company views this as a premium experience rather than a discounted alternative.
One Event Offers Much More Flexibility
The biggest distinction isn't what guests receive—it's how often they can actually attend.
Disney hosts After Hours events across multiple parks for much of the year, giving vacation planners numerous opportunities to fit one into their itinerary.
Universal isn't there yet.
As of now, only two Universal Nights dates have been confirmed.

That limited schedule may help create excitement for the event's debut, but it also makes planning considerably more difficult for guests whose vacations don't fall during those weekends.
Universal has hinted that additional announcements are on the way, so the schedule could expand in the future.
For now, Universal Nights represents another sign that the competition between Orlando's two biggest resort destinations continues to intensify. Rather than duplicating Disney's event outright, Universal has introduced a late-night experience that borrows familiar ideas while giving Epic Universe its own personality after dark.
