Guests Are Skipping Disney Springs After Disney’s Latest Policy Change

There's no denying that Disney Springs remains one of Walt Disney World's most popular destinations. It combines world-class restaurants, unique shopping, live entertainment, and beautiful waterfront views without requiring guests to purchase a theme park ticket.

Even so, not everyone is as excited to visit as they once were.

Recent transportation changes have sparked criticism among many local Disney fans, leading some to rethink their usual Disney Springs routine.

Why Some Locals Are Frustrated

Much of the recent backlash comes from a policy affecting Disney transportation.

Previously, many Central Florida residents parked at Disney Springs before taking buses to Disney Resort hotels. It became a convenient way to enjoy resort restaurants, lounges, and seasonal decorations without staying overnight.

Now, guests boarding buses to Disney resorts must verify they have a qualifying hotel or dining reservation before being allowed onto the bus.

Disney hasn't eliminated the transportation entirely, but the new requirement has significantly changed how many locals spend their evenings on Disney property.

For those who enjoyed casual resort-hopping, the experience has become much more restrictive.

Transportation Isn't Always What Guests Expect

Disney Springs also isn't designed to serve as a transportation center for the theme parks.

Many visitors mistakenly assume they can leave their vehicle there before taking Disney buses directly into Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.

That isn't how the system operates.

Disney buses from Disney Springs travel only to resort hotels, meaning anyone trying to reach the parks will need to find another option.

Knowing that before arriving can save considerable time and disappointment.

Bigger Crowds Than Ever

The popularity of Disney Springs continues to grow every year.

Without admission costs, it attracts locals, tourists, convention attendees, and resort guests throughout the day.

That popularity often means packed walkways, extended waits for restaurants, and parking garages that reach capacity during busy evenings.

Visitors hoping for a relaxing dinner may instead find themselves navigating crowds that feel surprisingly similar to those inside the parks.

Parking Isn't Always Stress-Free

Although Disney continues offering complimentary parking, convenience depends heavily on when you arrive.

Late afternoons and evenings frequently bring heavier traffic into the garages, and guests may find themselves walking much farther than anticipated after finally locating a parking space.

It's free—but it isn't always quick.

Disney Springs Is Still Worth Visiting

Despite the recent criticism, Disney Springs remains one of the premier entertainment destinations in Central Florida.

The shopping, dining, and live entertainment continue attracting millions of guests each year.

The difference is that visitors now benefit from a little extra planning.

Making reservations, arriving earlier, and understanding transportation policies can make the experience much smoother.

For locals disappointed by the new bus restrictions, however, the changes have altered one of the biggest perks Disney Springs once offered. While vacationers may never notice the difference, longtime Disney fans certainly have—and that's where much of the recent backlash has originated.
