It may feel like summer has plenty of time left, but the countdown is officially underway for anyone planning a visit to Dollywood before the park wraps up its 2026 season.
As August approaches, guests have just over five months remaining to enjoy the Pigeon Forge theme park before it closes for its annual winter break. Dollywood is scheduled to remain open through January 3, 2027, giving visitors one final stretch packed with new attractions, seasonal festivals, and holiday celebrations before the gates temporarily close.
Fortunately, some of the park's biggest events are still ahead.
NightFlight Expedition Arrives in August
The next major milestone comes in just a few weeks.
Dollywood's newest attraction, NightFlight Expedition, officially opens to all guests on August 19, 2026, following exclusive preview days for season passholders from August 15 through August 18.
The attraction gives guests another reason to plan a late-summer trip before the park begins transitioning into its fall lineup. Anyone hoping to experience Dollywood's newest addition during its first season won't have to wait much longer.
Combined with the final weeks of Smoky Mountain Summer, August offers visitors an opportunity to experience both a brand-new attraction and the park's summer atmosphere before the calendar turns toward autumn.
Fall Brings One of Dollywood's Most Popular Festivals
Starting September 14, Dollywood welcomes back its annual Harvest Festival, which continues through October 31.
The festival transforms the park with colorful decorations, seasonal food, live music, and the return of Great Pumpkin LumiNights, which fills Dollywood with glowing pumpkin displays after sunset.
Many longtime visitors consider fall one of the best times to experience the park. Comfortable temperatures, beautiful Smoky Mountain scenery, and the festival's atmosphere combine to create a noticeably different experience than a summer visit.
This year also introduces something brand new.
Harvey's Boo Bash debuts on select October evenings as a separately ticketed after-hours event. Beginning after 9 p.m., the Halloween celebration adds another reason for guests to visit during the busiest stretch of the fall season.
Christmas Closes Out the Year
Once Halloween comes to an end, Dollywood quickly shifts into another guest favorite.
Smoky Mountain Christmas begins November 6 and continues through the park's final operating day on January 3, 2027.
The event is known for its millions of holiday lights, festive entertainment, seasonal food, and Christmas decorations throughout the park. Families from across the country make annual trips to Pigeon Forge specifically to experience the holiday celebration.
Because it runs until the final operating day, Smoky Mountain Christmas also marks guests' last opportunity to visit Dollywood before the annual offseason begins.
Time Is Starting to Run Short
Dollywood's January closure isn't unusual. The park temporarily closes every winter to complete maintenance, prepare for the next operating season, and work on projects that are easier to tackle without daily guests.
Still, for anyone hoping to visit before that happens, the calendar is beginning to fill up quickly.
With NightFlight Expedition opening in August, Harvest Festival arriving in September, Harvey's Boo Bash debuting in October, and Smoky Mountain Christmas carrying the park into early January, the remainder of the 2026 season offers plenty of reasons to make one more trip before Dollywood temporarily closes for the winter.
