Sometimes the smallest changes around Walt Disney World are the ones guests notice most.
That was certainly true at EPCOT, where visitors recently found the park's entrance fountain sitting empty instead of flowing as usual. While it didn't affect attractions or park operations, the missing water changed the appearance of one of EPCOT's signature arrival scenes.
Now, that familiar view has returned.
The Fountain Is Operating Again
Guests entering EPCOT can once again see water flowing from the entrance fountain after it was temporarily drained.
The fountain had remained empty through at least late July, but Disney never announced why it had been shut down. There also weren't any visible signs of construction or maintenance taking place around the area.
That left guests without many answers, although the fountain has now returned to normal operation.
An Unanswered Question
Disney has not confirmed whether the fountain was drained for scheduled maintenance or because of an unexpected issue.
One detail made the situation even more interesting.
Coins could still be seen inside the empty basin, suggesting the water wasn't removed simply to clean out guest wishes or perform routine coin removal.
Without an official explanation, the reason behind the temporary closure remains unknown.
A Feature That Fits EPCOT's New Identity
The current entrance fountain became part of EPCOT during the park's entrance redesign in 2020.
While it's newer than many longtime park icons, it was designed with the original entrance fountain in mind. The updated version includes three lucite pylons displaying the EPCOT logo, creating a centerpiece that blends modern design with a nod to the park's past.
After sunset, color-changing lights bring the fountain to life while matching the lighting effects on Spaceship Earth.
Those nighttime effects have helped make the fountain an attraction of its own for many photographers and Disney fans.
More Than Just Decoration
Disney parks are known for paying attention to details, and the entrance fountain is one of those finishing touches that helps shape a guest's first impression.
It's one of the first things visitors see after scanning into EPCOT and one of the last sights they pass on the way out.
Even though the fountain's temporary shutdown didn't disrupt anyone's vacation, plenty of returning guests noticed its absence.
Now that the water is flowing once again, the entrance has regained the familiar appearance that many Disney fans have come to expect.
