Two changes are about to reshape the water park portion of a Walt Disney World vacation.
Beginning September 9, 2026, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will temporarily close to guests. At nearly the same time, a complimentary benefit that has given eligible Disney Resort hotel guests access to a water park on check-in day will disappear.
The combination means September 8 is an important deadline for upcoming visitors.
It will be the final scheduled operating day for Typhoon Lagoon before its closure and the final day of Disney's complimentary water park check-in benefit.
Typhoon Lagoon Has Less Than a Month Left
Disney has scheduled Typhoon Lagoon to close beginning September 9.
The company has not announced an official reopening date, so guests currently don't know how long the water park will remain unavailable.
Blizzard Beach will continue operating after the closure.
That means Walt Disney World will return to having only one operating water park after spending the summer with both available.
For several years, that was normal.
Disney frequently alternated between Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, keeping one available while the other underwent a closure or refurbishment.
Then Disney changed things up in 2025.
Disney Brought Both Water Parks Back
Last summer marked the first time since COVID that Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach operated simultaneously.
Disney repeated that approach this year.
Blizzard Beach briefly closed for refurbishment in May before reopening, allowing guests to choose between both water parks during the summer.
That run will officially end once Typhoon Lagoon closes.
It will be interesting to watch what happens next. After opening both parks during two consecutive summers, Disney could be establishing a pattern.
Both water parks could operate together during summer before Disney returns to alternating closures at other points on the calendar.
No future schedule has been confirmed, however.
Free Water Park Admission Is Ending Too
For Disney Resort hotel guests, the bigger September change may involve admission.
Disney's complimentary water park benefit ends September 8.
Disney Resort hotel guests have been able to visit a Disney water park on their check-in day without purchasing separate water park admission.
That option disappears for arrivals beginning September 9.
Blizzard Beach will still be operating, but guests will need valid admission rather than using the complimentary check-in day perk.
For families who planned to turn arrival day into an extra water park experience, that's a significant change to keep in mind.

Guests visiting before the deadline still have a little time to take advantage of the current setup.
Through September 8, Typhoon Lagoon remains scheduled to operate, and eligible Resort hotel guests can still use the complimentary check-in day water park benefit.
One day later, both pieces of that equation change.
Typhoon Lagoon closes with no announced reopening date, while Blizzard Beach becomes Walt Disney World's only operating water park.
For now, anyone hoping to squeeze in one more Typhoon Lagoon visit has until September 8 to make it happen.
