People visit Universal Orlando Resort to ride roller coasters, meet characters, eat themed food, and step inside some of their favorite fictional worlds.
Apparently, at least one person had another activity in mind.
A bizarre photo from more than a decade ago has resurfaced online, showing a guest inside Islands of Adventure holding a fishing rod with an actual fish dangling from the line.
Yes, someone apparently went fishing inside a Universal theme park. Even stranger, he actually caught something.
Strange Islands of Adventure Photo Resurfaces
Amusement Buzz recently shared the old image on X, saying the incident happened on September 13, 2015.
“September 13th, 2015 a guy went fishing in the lagoon at Islands of Adventure I found this and had forgotten about this!” the account wrote.
The photo provides some pretty convincing evidence.

The man can be seen standing directly in front of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center with a fishing rod. A fish hangs from the hook in front of him.
That means this apparently wasn't someone simply bringing a rod into Islands of Adventure and posing for a joke. He seemingly cast a line into the park's lagoon and managed to reel something in.
How he managed to do all of that remains unclear.
Don't Expect to Go Fishing at Universal Orlando
As entertaining as the old photo may be, guests shouldn't start packing fishing gear for their next Universal Orlando vacation.
Fishing in the Islands of Adventure lagoon is prohibited. The water surrounding the park's different lands may look inviting to someone carrying a rod, but it isn't an attraction or recreational fishing area.
Universal also screens guests and their belongings before they enter its theme parks.
The resurfaced post doesn't explain how the man managed to get his fishing equipment inside in 2015. It also doesn't reveal how long he fished or whether Universal Team Members eventually approached him.
Whatever happened afterward, someone managed to capture photographic evidence of his catch.
Jurassic Park Has Changed Since 2015
The photo also offers a fascinating look at an older version of Islands of Adventure.
Jurassic World VelociCoaster wouldn't open until 2021, meaning the area surrounding the Jurassic Park Discovery Center looked considerably different when the picture was taken.
Today, VelociCoaster dominates this section of the park, with its track running through the Jurassic Park landscape near the lagoon.
Universal Orlando has changed considerably beyond Islands of Adventure as well. Epic Universe opened in May 2025, expanding the resort with another full theme park.
Yet this old photo proves you don't need a new roller coaster or billion-dollar expansion to create a memorable Universal story.
Sometimes, all you need is a fishing rod.
More than 10 years later, we still don't know exactly how this guest managed to go fishing inside Islands of Adventure.
But we know one important thing.
He apparently didn't leave empty-handed.
