Lucasfilm Officially Brings ‘The Clone Wars’ Into Live Action

Few franchises have expanded their television universe quite like Star Wars.

Since Disney+ launched in 2019, Lucasfilm has brought some of the galaxy far, far away's biggest characters to live action through a series of original shows. The Mandalorian (2019–2023) introduced audiences to an entirely new corner of the galaxy, while The Book of Boba Fett (2021–2022) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) brought familiar characters back to the screen.

But the franchise's television history goes back much further, with animated series including Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020) and Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018) becoming essential parts of the wider saga. Now, one of those stories is once again being brought into live action.

Ahsoka Season 2 Is Coming

Ahsoka (2023) marked the first time the titular character received her own live-action series after making her debut in The Clone Wars and later becoming a key character in Rebels. Rosario Dawson first portrayed the character in The Mandalorian Season 2 before leading the Disney+ series, which continued Ahsoka's story and the wider narrative established by Rebels.

Now, we finally have our first look at the second season. During the recent Disney Studio Showcase Panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and members of the cast unveiled the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2.

Ahsoka Season 1 debuted in 2023 and continued the story established by Rebels, bringing characters including Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Grand Admiral Thrawn into live action for the first time. But the second season appears to be taking a different approach.

The trailer features the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, alongside flashbacks to Ahsoka's younger years. While this is consistent with the first season, the series seems to be doubling down on bringing The Clone Wars into live action. Watch the trailer here:

Ariana Greenblatt once again appears as the younger Ahsoka, reprising her role from the first season, while Rosario Dawson also returns as the character's older live-action incarnation.

Interestingly, the trailer revisits one of the defining moments of Ahsoka's story, with Anakin asking her, “Are you a Jedi or not?” That question connects directly to The Clone Wars, in which Ahsoka was falsely accused of a crime and ultimately walked away from the Jedi Order.

Here's the official description from StarWars.com:

“Set after the fall of the Empire, “Ahsoka” follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”

The new season also brings back Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

Baylan Skoll will now be played by Rory McCann following the death of Ray Stevenson in 2023.

While Ahsoka Season 2 is set years after the events of the original trilogy, the new footage makes it clear that the legacy of The Clone Wars will continue to play a major role in the series.

The new season of Ahsoka arrives on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.
