You Have Days Left to Do Volcano Bay After Dark … Then It’s Gone Until March

Volcano Bay Nights ends Friday. And two months after that, the entire water park shuts down until spring.

Quick context.

Look, summer in Central Florida does not end when the calendar says it does. Kids go back to school, Halloween merch hits the shelves, every park starts pushing pumpkin everything. Meanwhile it is 95 degrees outside with humidity you could physically lean on. That gap between what the season claims and what the weather delivers is one of the weirder parts of living or vacationing down here.

Which is exactly why Volcano Bay Nights hit.

Universal ran a limited-capacity after-hours event at its water park all summer, letting people do Volcano Bay with the sun down and the temperature actually survivable. One of the smarter seasonal plays in Orlando, going since early May.

It ends this week.

The Last Night

Volcano Bay Nights closes out 2026 on Friday, August 21, per Universal's own announcement.

The event has run select nights since May 3.

Tickets are $99 plus tax per person, parking included. Universal Annual and Seasonal Passholders knock off 10 percent with a valid pass and photo ID.

Days. Not weeks.

What Is Actually Included

Never got out there? Here is the deal.

The event runs after regular park hours. Ticketed guests get in as early as 4 p.m. The event itself kicks off at 7 p.m.

Big draw is short waits on the headliners. Krakatau Aqua Coaster. Ko'okiri Body Plunge. TeAwa the Fearless River.

There is also a Beach Bash at Waturi Beach with a live DJ, plus character meet-and-greets with Shrek and Madagascar characters from DreamWorks Animation.

Complimentary treats have included Blue Raspberry Churro Bites and garlic parmesan popcorn, with specialty food and drinks for purchase around the park.

Why This Works So Well

Sounds gimmicky until you have done a Central Florida water park in July.

Daytime Volcano Bay at peak summer is direct sun, scorching walkways, long lines with nowhere to hide, and a heat index that has repeatedly hit advisory levels this month. Fantastic park. Genuinely miserable conditions.

Run that same park after dark and the worst part just vanishes. Cooler air. No sun. Way shorter lines for the big three.

Totally different product than the same place at 1 p.m. That is why people bought in.

Universal Is Playing a Bigger Game

Volcano Bay Nights is not a one-off.

Universal Nights debuts at Epic Universe this fall, first dates October 3 and October 17. Tickets start at $179.99 plus tax.

Guests get the park after regular hours with fewer crowds, entertainment, character encounters, and complimentary snacks and drinks. Entry to Epic Universe opens at 7 p.m., private event runs 9 p.m. to midnight.

Universal tied early admission straight to Universal Celestial Goodnight, the park's nighttime fireworks and projection spectacular, so the whole evening builds toward the exclusive part instead of treating early entry as filler.

Different products, wildly different prices, same underlying strategy. Universal is selling time in its parks after dark, across multiple properties.

They Added Dates Mid-Summer

Reading the tea leaves here.

Universal's original March announcement listed August nights on the 7th, 14th, and 21st. Then in late June the resort expanded the schedule, adding dates across the summer.

Expanding a limited-capacity event mid-run generally means it is selling. Good sign for 2027, though Universal has confirmed nothing.

The Park Itself Closes in October

Here is the part that will actually mess with trip plans.

Volcano Bay closes for seasonal maintenance October 26 and does not reopen until March 24, 2027.

That is five months with no water park at Universal Orlando. Worth knowing if a water park day is part of your Orlando formula, especially over the holidays or spring break.

Everything Else Going On

Passholder Appreciation Days run through September 30, with dedicated entrances, exclusive menu items, and extra savings.

And Halloween Horror Nights kicks off August 28, exactly one week after Volcano Bay Nights wraps. Not an accident. Universal is handing off from its summer event directly into its biggest fall one.
