Universal Orlando fans have another mystery to follow at Epic Universe, and this one reaches back years into the resort's past.
Attention has already begun to turn toward an area beyond the current boundaries of the Dark Universe. With activity happening around the site, questions continue to grow about what Universal could eventually add to its monster-filled world.
Now, an unexpected discovery has made that conversation even more interesting.
Longtime Universal Studios Florida guests might recognize what's hiding around the expansion area. And one familiar face, in particular, could add even more intrigue to what Universal is preparing behind Darkmoor.
Dark Universe Brought the Monsters Together
When Epic Universe opened in May 2025, Dark Universe gave Universal's classic monsters a permanent land of their own.
The experience centers around Darkmoor, a shadowy village populated by some of Universal's most recognizable horror characters. Frankenstein's Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man all have a presence throughout the area.
Guests can experience Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Curse of the Werewolf while also exploring themed restaurants and meeting characters.
Universal essentially took decades of monster history and built an entire world around it.
But there is room for Dark Universe to grow.
That's why an expansion area near the existing land has become increasingly interesting, particularly as Universal continues activity around the site.
One Monster Keeps Coming Up in Expansion Talk
Universal has not revealed exactly what will eventually occupy the Dark Universe expansion area.
Until that happens, rumors will continue to fill the gap.
The Creature from the Black Lagoon has become one of the most prominent figures in those conversations. Fans have discussed the possibility of a dedicated Creature attraction, although Universal has not confirmed that such a ride is coming.
That distinction remains important.
There is currently no official Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction announcement for Epic Universe.
However, the monster is now more tangibly connected to the expansion area thanks to an aerial view of the site.
A Familiar Trio Appears Near the Expansion
X user bioreconstruct recently captured an aerial image showing the area around the Dark Universe expansion.
Behind Frankenstein Manor, three familiar Universal monsters could be seen together.
The group included Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Longtime Universal Studios Florida fans may recognize the figures from Classic Monsters Cafe. The restaurant operated for more than 20 years before permanently closing in May 2022.
Universal later transformed that section of Universal Studios Florida into Minion Land, with Minion Cafe replacing the former monster-themed restaurant.
The monsters themselves weren't forgotten.
Now, the three figures have turned up in the Dark Universe expansion area. The aerial image also showed dumpsters nearby as materials were being sorted and removed from the site.
Their appearance doesn't reveal Universal's plans, but their location makes them difficult to ignore.

Could the Old Monsters Become Part of Something New?
Universal could ultimately have several uses for the figures.
Perhaps they could appear at a future dining experience. Reusing them that way would create a nostalgic connection to Classic Monsters Cafe while allowing the pieces to live on inside a land devoted entirely to Universal's monsters.
Another possibility involves the expansion's future attraction.
Permits associated with the area have pointed toward some type of attraction project. If Universal incorporates the old figures into that development, they could potentially appear in a queue, around its exterior, or elsewhere within the surrounding environment.
There's no confirmation that Universal intends to do any of that.
The figures could simply be sitting there temporarily before Universal moves them somewhere else.
Still, their survival is notable. Years after Classic Monsters Cafe disappeared, recognizable pieces from the restaurant have found their way to Universal's newest monster destination.
The Expansion Rumors Don't Stop With the Creature
The Creature from the Black Lagoon isn't the only character connected to conversations about what could come next.
A possible Bride of Frankenstein attraction has also been discussed.
Another rumor involves an eerie playground or children's area. Such an addition could give families with younger children another experience within Dark Universe beyond its current lineup of attractions
Universal hasn't announced either project.
That leaves the expansion's eventual identity wide open.
Yet the Creature remains especially interesting because a dedicated attraction based on the monster has remained such a prominent possibility. Finding his old figure near the expansion will naturally keep that conversation alive.
Universal's Monster Past Meets Its Future
For now, fans shouldn't view the appearance of these figures as evidence that a Creature from the Black Lagoon ride is definitely coming.
Universal has made no such announcement.
Instead, the discovery offers an interesting connection between two generations of Universal Orlando Resort.
Classic Monsters Cafe once gave Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Creature a prominent home at Universal Studios Florida. Four years after that restaurant closed, those familiar figures have surfaced around Dark Universe.
Where they go from here remains unknown.
They could become decorations for a new dining experience. Universal could incorporate them into an attraction. They could even move somewhere completely different.
Whatever happens next, these pieces of Universal's monster history have ended up exactly where fans would expect to find them: back among the monsters.
