Marvel Studios already gave fans plenty to talk about with Avengers: Doomsday (2026), but on August 24, an unexpected new version of footage that audiences had already seen was released.
The characters are familiar. The biggest moments haven't gone anywhere. Even some of the trailer's surprises remain exactly where fans remember them.
What has changed is practically everything viewers are looking at.
It's an unusual way to revisit one of Marvel's biggest trailers of the year, and the response shows that fans wouldn't mind seeing this idea go much further.
Marvel Has Plenty of Familiar Faces Coming Back
Avengers: Doomsday isn't shaping up like an ordinary Avengers movie.
Instead, Marvel will bring characters from several parts of its cinematic universe together, with Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) emerging as the major threat. Downey's casting creates an unusual dynamic after audiences spent more than a decade watching him play Tony Stark/Iron Man.
The Avengers side includes several familiar names.
Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan reprises Bucky Barnes, Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Simu Liu returns as Shang-Chi, and Tom Hiddleston is back as Loki.
Marvel is also bringing the Fantastic Four into the massive ensemble. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn returns as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Then there are the X-Men.
Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X alongside Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Channing Tatum also returns as Gambit.
Marvel's earlier trailer offered the first real taste of what can happen when those different groups collide.
The Previous Footage Delivered Some Huge Moments
Marvel Studios packed its official Avengers: Doomsday trailer with character combinations that would have seemed almost impossible in the MCU just a few years ago.
Professor X and Magneto appear as the X-Men become part of the larger story, but they aren't the only characters crossing paths.
Gambit faces Shang-Chi in another surprising encounter. Thor, meanwhile, goes directly after Doom.
Thor attempts to strike the villain with Stormbreaker, but Doom stops the attack with little trouble. The moment gives audiences an early indication of just how formidable the Avengers' new enemy could be.
The trailer then saves another major surprise for its ending.
Thor reunites with Steve Rogers, bringing the longtime Avengers together again. Steve summons Mjolnir during their encounter, proving to Thor that he really is the man standing before him.
Fans already knew those scenes. On August 24, however, they got to watch them again in a form nobody could mistake for the original.
Every Hero Suddenly Looks Very Different
LEGO recreated the Avengers: Doomsday trailer shot-for-shot, transforming Marvel's live-action footage into an elaborate brick-built version.
The recreation doesn't stop with one or two recognizable moments.
Professor X, Magneto, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Steve Rogers, Thor, and the other characters become LEGO minifigures. The locations surrounding them also become brick-built environments, while the major action sequences receive the same treatment.
That approach essentially creates a miniature LEGO version of the upcoming Marvel movie without revealing any additional details of the actual story.
Fans responded enthusiastically.

Viewers praised the work behind the recreation on social media, with some asking LEGO to take the concept further and create a full version of the movie. Others said seeing the trailer increased their excitement for the officially announced Avengers: Doomsday LEGO sets.
The reaction isn't difficult to understand. Marvel has assembled a huge collection of recognizable characters, and watching all of them suddenly become minifigures gives familiar footage an entirely different personality.
But fans won't have to wait too much longer to see their live-action counterparts again.
The Countdown to Doomsday Continues
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) opens exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026.
The movie will bring together Avengers, Fantastic Four members, X-Men characters, and other Marvel heroes into a single story while introducing Downey's Doctor Doom as a major threat.
That alone leaves plenty of unanswered questions.
Steve Rogers' return remains one of the biggest mysteries, while Marvel still has plenty to reveal about how these different heroes ultimately find themselves fighting alongside—or against—one another.
For now, the LEGO recreation gives audiences another way to enjoy the movie's trailer without revealing more of those answers.
Marvel's heroes will return to their live-action forms when Avengers: Doomsday arrives this December. Until then, seeing Steve Rogers, Thor, Gambit, Professor X, and the rest of this enormous cast rebuilt as minifigures only adds another fun layer to the countdown.
