Ever since Disney officially confirmed the massive “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion at Magic Kingdom—bringing Villains Land and Piston Peak National Park to life—speculation has been running at an all-time high. Among the most popular theories were those surrounding the iconic Haunted Mansion and how the classic Liberty Square attraction would fit alongside its new, sinister neighbors.

For months, two major rumors dominated theme park forums and social media: that the Haunted Mansion was finally getting its own dedicated bar or lounge, and that Imagineers would connect the attraction's footprint directly into Villains Land.
However, newly revealed scale models displayed at the 2026 D23 Expo have officially put both theories to rest. Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion will not feature a themed bar, nor will it share a physical connection with Villains Land. Here is what the new models actually show and where those viral rumors went wrong.
The Origins of the Haunted Mansion Rumors
To understand why these rumors spread so quickly, we have to look back at initial permit filings for the “Beyond Big Thunder” project. Speculation first ignited in October 2025, when public documents outlined a massive 33-acre construction footprint behind Magic Kingdom.

The fire was stoked further in January 2026, when a detailed layout permit revealed specific building footprints for the expansion. Eagle-eyed fans immediately spotted a small, 5,800-square-foot building situated directly adjacent to the Haunted Mansion estate.
Given the runaway popularity of the Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Cruise Line and the addition of the Beak & Barrel lounge in Adventureland, fans assumed this mystery structure was a new Haunted Mansion bar. At the same time, because Villains Land borders the Mansion backstage, rumors suggested a dedicated walkway would link the spooky ride straight into the new land.
Debunking the Bar: Mystery Building Revealed as Restrooms
The truth finally came to light at the 2026 D23 Expo, where Imagineering unveiled a detailed scale model of Piston Peak National Park, complete with renderings of the surrounding Liberty Square structures.

Zooming in on the 5,800-square-foot mystery building from the January permit, the physical model clearly labels the facility’s actual purpose: restrooms.
Instead of a highly themed lounge serving spectral cocktails, the structure is simply a practical amenity designed to handle the expected influx of visitors for the park expansion. While additional restrooms are always a necessary addition to Magic Kingdom, it certainly dashed the hopes of fans eager to hand over their wallets for a Haunted Mansion mixology experience.
Keeping Liberty Square Distinct: No Connection to Villains Land
The scale model also officially debunked the rumor of a direct path between the Haunted Mansion and Villains Land.

On the model, there is no walkway, gate, or thematic transition connecting the Mansion grounds to the new realm of Disney Villains. In fact, the newly revealed restroom building serves as a physical buffer between the two areas.
While guests will be able to navigate toward the expansion thoroughfares nearby, the Haunted Mansion itself remains completely self-contained within Liberty Square. Imagineers are keeping the classic dark ride visually and functionally isolated from its new, villainous neighbors.
A New Overflow Queue for the Gracey Manor
Though the model disproved the bar and Villains Land integration, it did reveal one notable infrastructure update for the Haunted Mansion. A wooded pathway situated alongside the attraction appears to serve as a new overflow queue. Much like the rest of the ride's footprint, this queue remains entirely separate from the main expansion walkways and does not connect to Villains Land.

Final Thoughts
While it is disappointing that a Haunted Mansion lounge isn't in the cards, the physical models offer welcome clarity on how Magic Kingdom’s footprint is evolving. The 999 Happy Haunts will stay happily situated in Liberty Square, enjoying their peace while the Disney Villains take over next door.
