Fresh aerial images show just how far Universal Orlando Resort has taken apart Jurassic Park River Adventure, giving fans their most detailed look yet at a refurbishment that has kept the ride offline for months.
Months of Speculation Surround the Closure
The ride has remained closed since January 5, 2026, with a reopening currently planned for November 20, 2026. That extended timeline fueled early speculation among Universal Parks fans, some of whom theorized that Universal Orlando Resort might be rebranding the attraction entirely into Jurassic World: The Ride, mirroring the transformation Universal Studios Hollywood completed on its own version back in 2019.
Universal Orlando Resort has never confirmed or denied the Jurassic World (2015) rumors. Still, photos taken over the summer suggest the project is focused on restoring the ride's existing Jurassic Park (1993) theming rather than reimagining it.
The ride's age helps explain why the refurbishment has taken so long. Jurassic Park River Adventure originally opened in 1999, and its audio-animatronic systems require regular maintenance to remain functional and safe for guests. Water-based attractions also tend to experience more wear than dry rides, a problem exacerbated by the fact that portions of this ride are exposed to the outdoors.
A Detailed Look at the Dismantled Ride
Aerial photographer and X (formerly known as Twitter) user @bioreconstruct posted an extensive collection of images on Sunday, documenting the extent of construction across the ride's outdoor sections.
One set of photos captures a partially disassembled dinosaur animatronic positioned near the drained ride path within Ultrasaur Lagoon, with the caption:
