Scaffolding has now spread across the entire Twilight Zone Tower of Terror building, marking the latest milestone in a construction project that's been steadily unfolding at Disney's Hollywood Studios since early spring.
Tracing the Refurbishment of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
The project traces back to March, when Walt Disney World Resort first filed a construction permit for the attraction. Work began in earnest in early May, starting with the outdoor queue area situated beneath the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade. Within weeks, Disney had removed decorative flags outside the gift shop and wrapped protective scrim around portions of the building, likely to shield those areas ahead of more extensive construction.
Scaffolding didn't appear on the building's exterior until July, when guests first spotted equipment positioned above the gift shop. Over the following two months, that scaffolding gradually spread toward the front of the building and climbed steadily up the towering Hollywood Tower Hotel facade.
What's Happening Behind the Scaffolding
The work appears centered on repainting the building's exterior. As construction has progressed across new sections of the facade, guests have noticed fresh pink paint replacing the older, weathered coat. The process seems to involve applying a base layer of pink first, with additional layers likely planned to recreate the building's intentionally aged, haunted appearance.
Just days ago, Disney Fanatic reported that scaffolding had reached the very top of the 199-foot-tall structure. Now, another construction milestone has been reached.
Scaffolding Now Wraps the Entire Building
WDWMagic reported on September 15 that scaffolding had been extended to the back of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, effectively covering the entire facade with construction materials. A photo shared by the outlet on Facebook documents the building's current, fully wrapped state.
Despite the extensive construction, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror continues operating normally for Disney Park guests. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any plans to close the ride, nor has it provided a timeline for when the exterior refurbishment might conclude.
