A recent journey aboard the Disney Wonder took a dark turn when a Disney Cruise Line cast member required a helicopter evacuation from the vessel mid-sailing due to a medical emergency.
Disney Cruise Line Cast Member Evacuated by Helicopter
According to Chek News, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron was called to the Disney Wonder in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 8. Two rescue aircraft, a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher airplane, flew to the Disney Cruise Line vessel, which was located off the Northern tip of Vancouver Island.
Chek News shared a video of the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter hovering above the deck, allowing two emergency technicians to board the Disney Wonder and eventually evacuate the patient by lifting them into the helicopter. The CC-295 Kingfisher airplane coordinated rescue efforts with the captain of the Disney Cruise Line ship before the helicopter arrived.
Cruise Hive confirmed that the injured person evacuated from the Disney Wonder was a Disney Cruise Line cast member, not a guest. However, no outlets explained the extent of the medical emergency. The Disney cast member was taken to a hospital in Canada for treatment.
“Disney Wonder, from Rescue 915, thanks for your help, you can resume your speed,” the rescue team reportedly radioed after rescuing the Disney Cruise Line cast member.
“Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated,” the Disney Wonder crew replied.
Impact on Disney Wonder Sailings
The emergency occurred just one day after the Disney Wonder headed out on a seven-day sailing between Vancouver, Canada, and Alaska. Despite the emergency evacuation, the rest of the trip continued as planned, and the Disney Cruise Line itinerary was not interrupted. The next scheduled sailing proceeded on schedule on Monday, September 14.
