Stitch has been missing from one of his most familiar Disney World locations since July, and September is quickly passing without any sign of his return.
Guests haven't completely lost the popular Disney character. Stitch remains available elsewhere around Walt Disney World, but one particularly recognizable version of him has been missing for months now.
Reports indicate that the removal isn't permanent, but Disney hasn't announced a return date.
Stitch Has Long Had a Major Disney World Presence
Few Disney characters are quite as easy to find around Walt Disney World as Stitch.
Since Disney released Lilo & Stitch (2002), the blue alien has developed a massive fan following. His merchandise remains widely available throughout Disney World, and guests can still find opportunities to see the character during their vacations.
Disney has continued giving Stitch plenty of attention following the release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025), including additional merchandise featuring the character.
At Disney Springs, however, guests became accustomed to seeing Stitch on a much larger scale.
For years, a massive Stitch figure sat above an entrance to World of Disney. Guests approaching the store could see him looking down from above, and some were surprised when Stitch spat water toward the walkway.
That familiar Disney Springs experience hasn't been available for months.
Disney Springs Lost Stitch During the Summer
The Stitch figure disappeared from World of Disney in July 2026.
Reports have described the removal as part of a refurbishment, with Stitch eventually expected to return to his familiar position above the store entrance.
The problem is that Disney hasn't said when.
September is now well underway, which means Stitch has been away from World of Disney for roughly two months. Disney hasn't provided a specific date for his return or laid out a public timeline for completing the reported refurbishment.
That uncertainty has made his extended absence increasingly noticeable, especially for guests accustomed to seeing him during every visit to Disney Springs.
Now, fans finally know a little more about where Stitch went.
Stitch Turned Up Somewhere Else
Aerial photographer Bioreconstruct recently captured a photo of the massive Stitch figure outside Disney Springs.
The photograph offers an interesting look at the missing figure, but anyone hoping it would reveal an obvious sign of an approaching return may be disappointed.
Only Stitch's back is visible in the image. From what can be seen, the figure remains away from World of Disney and doesn't appear obviously ready to return to his old position.
That doesn't necessarily mean Disney still has extensive work to complete.
The photograph only captures one angle, so there's no way to determine the condition of the entire figure. Refurbishment work could also be taking place in areas that aren't visible.
At the very least, fans now have confirmation that Stitch is still around, even as his Disney Springs location remains empty.

Could November Finally Bring Him Back?
Attention now turns toward the upcoming holiday season.
Reports have suggested that Disney could return Stitch to World of Disney in time for the 2026 holidays. If that happens, November could potentially become an important month.
Walt Disney World begins rolling out its Christmas celebrations in November, so having Stitch back in place around that time would certainly make sense.
For now, however, that timeline remains speculative.
Disney hasn't announced a November return date. The company also hasn't publicly confirmed a specific deadline for completing the work.
Until Stitch actually reappears or Disney provides more information, guests shouldn't treat any particular November date as guaranteed.
Stitch Fans Still Have Other Options
Thankfully, the missing World of Disney figure doesn't mean Stitch has vanished from the resort.
Guests can still find Stitch in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, where the character continues meeting fans.
Stitch also has a presence at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, which fits naturally with the tropical setting and his connection to Lilo & Stitch (2002).
Those options give Stitch fans somewhere to find the character while one of his most recognizable Disney Springs appearances remains unavailable.
The Wait Continues at Disney Springs
For now, World of Disney remains without the giant Stitch that greeted guests for years.
Reports continue to point toward refurbishment rather than permanent removal, and the recent aerial photograph confirms that the figure remains on Disney property. What nobody has yet is an official date for when he'll return.
The holiday season could provide the answer, but Disney hasn't made that promise.
Until the figure reappears above World of Disney, guests will have to keep waiting for Stitch to reclaim his familiar spot — and start surprising people walking underneath him once again.
