Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room Enters Shutdown After 43 Years

Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room has officially closed.

The attraction concept dates back to 1963, when Walt Disney opened the original Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland.

Tokyo Disneyland introduced its own version when the park opened in 1983. The show has changed several times since, but the same Adventureland location has housed a Tiki Room attraction for 43 years.

That run is now temporarily on hold.

Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room Is Now Closed

The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha E Komo Mai! played its final shows before closure on September 23.

Tokyo Disneyland operated until 9 p.m. that evening, meaning the attraction is officially unavailable to guests as of September 24.

The shutdown is temporary.

Tokyo Disney Resort lists the Enchanted Tiki Room as closed from September 24 through October 23. It is currently scheduled to reopen on October 24.

No major changes to the attraction have been announced as part of the refurbishment.

The current show has operated since 2008, when Stitch was introduced to Tokyo Disneyland’s version of the classic Disney attraction.

Tokyo Disney Resort describes the 10-minute experience as “an enchanting show with Hawaiian birds [that] gets interrupted when that mischievous Stitch appears.”

The production mixes Stitch with the singing birds, flowers, and tiki figures traditionally associated with Disney’s Tiki Room attractions.

Before Stitch arrived, the theater hosted The Enchanted Tiki Room: Now Playing Get The Fever!

That version opened in 1999 after Tokyo Disneyland retired the original Tiki Room show that had operated since the park’s opening day in April 1983.

The attraction has therefore remained in the same Adventureland location for 43 years, despite undergoing two major changes during that period.

Its current closure marks another pause in one of Tokyo Disneyland’s longest running attraction histories.

Questions Remain Over the Attraction’s Longer-Term Future

Although the September shutdown is scheduled maintenance, the Enchanted Tiki Room has also faced speculation about its longer-term future.

That speculation followed concept artwork released by Oriental Land Company, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort, as part of its 2035 Long Term Management Strategy.

One image showed a dramatically different version of the area currently occupied by parts of Adventureland and Westernland.

Among the apparent additions was an Incredibles-inspired roller coaster positioned around the current Enchanted Tiki Room area.

Other concepts seemingly included a Moana attraction near the Swiss Family Treehouse and an Up-inspired development around the Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions and Western River Railroad.

None of those projects has been confirmed.

Oriental Land Company has stressed that the artwork represents possible future development rather than finalized plans, and it has not announced the permanent closure of the Enchanted Tiki Room.
