Disney World Confirms Return of Beloved Christmas Experience, Reservations Now Open

Not every magical Christmas experience at Walt Disney World requires stepping inside a theme park.

In fact, one of Disney's returning holiday activities takes guests away from the usual attractions and into a peaceful, wooded setting where the Christmas season feels a little more traditional.

With December approaching, Disney has officially opened reservations for an experience that families may want to add to their holiday plans.

And unlike many of the company's seasonal offerings, this one allows guests to enjoy a private ride with their group.

A Different Kind of Disney World Christmas Experience

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will once again offer Holiday Sleigh Rides during the 2026 Christmas season.

The returning experience allows guests to climb aboard a horse-drawn carriage decorated to resemble a festive sleigh.

From there, visitors travel along scenic trails through the resort's campground surroundings.

It's a much different experience from spending an evening watching fireworks at Magic Kingdom or exploring the holiday entertainment at EPCOT.

Instead of rushing between attractions, families can enjoy a relaxing 25-minute ride through one of Walt Disney World's most distinctive resort areas.

The experience will be available from December 1 through December 30, 2026.

However, Disney has confirmed that the rides will not operate on Christmas Eve, December 24.

That means visitors hoping to schedule the activity during Christmas week should pay close attention to the available dates.

How Much Will the Sleigh Rides Cost?

Disney has set the price for the 2026 Holiday Sleigh Rides at $80 per carriage, with tax included.

That might sound like another expensive addition to an already costly Disney World vacation, but the price isn't charged per person.

Instead, guests can share the experience with their family or group.

Each sleigh accommodates up to four adults or two adults and three small children.

That means a group of four adults could enjoy the ride for an average cost of $20 each.

For families trying to balance their vacation budgets, this could make the experience more appealing than some of Disney's other separately priced holiday offerings.

Of course, whether it's worth $80 depends on what guests want from their vacation.

Those looking for thrill rides and elaborate entertainment might prefer spending their money elsewhere.

But visitors interested in a quieter, old-fashioned Christmas activity may find something special at Fort Wilderness.

What Guests Need to Know Before Booking

Reservations for the Holiday Sleigh Rides are now available through Disney's website and the My Disney Experience app.

Disney allows guests to reserve their experience up to 60 days in advance.

While limited same-day reservations and walk-ins are possible, advance booking is strongly recommended.

Guests should also plan their transportation carefully.

The rides depart from the Tri-Circle-D Ranch barn near the Settlement Bus Depot at Fort Wilderness.

Visitors arriving by car must park near the resort's main entrance and take a complimentary bus to the departure area.

Disney recommends allowing at least an hour for transportation, while guests traveling from elsewhere on Disney property should plan for up to 90 minutes.

Check-in is required at least 15 minutes before the scheduled ride.

There are also a few additional rules to consider.

The rides generally operate in rain and cold weather but may be canceled when conditions become unsuitable.

Guests using wheelchairs must be able to step up into the sleigh, and Disney enforces a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Anyone who cancels too late or misses their reservation will be charged the full price.

For families planning a Walt Disney World Christmas vacation, the returning sleigh rides offer something a little different from the usual holiday celebrations.

Whether it's a family outing, a romantic evening, or simply a chance to enjoy Fort Wilderness, this seasonal experience gives guests another reason to explore Disney World beyond its theme parks.
