Stranger Things may have reached the end of its five-season run, but Netflix isn't ready to leave the world of Hawkins and the Upside Down behind anytime soon.
Since the series wrapped up, the streamer has continued to explore the franchise through animation with Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and on stage with the live theatrical production Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Now, it has a new live-action story on the way.
Live-Action Stranger Things Will Return
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Netflix has officially ordered a new prequel series, titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure.
Set in the 1950s, it will take place decades before the events of the original series, with production scheduled to take place in New Mexico. Watch the official announcement video below:

The project comes from Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer and longtime series writer Kate Trefry, who will serve as showrunner.
The Duffers said they had been developing the idea for years. “We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” they said. They also teased a story with “a new setting, new heroes and villains,” adding that they could not reveal anything more just yet.
Unlike the original series, the prequel will feature a new cast of characters. That means fans shouldn't expect to see Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, or Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, among many others — although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Still, with the new series taking place in the 1950s, and with Matt and Ross Duffer confirming earlier this year that the then-untitled spinoff wouldn't have any “common characters” with the flagship series, it's fair to assume that the Hawkins gang won't be coming back this time.
Stranger Things Season 1–5, and Tales From '85 Seasons 1 and 2, are now streaming.
Other Worlds is expected to arrive in 2028.
