After 66 Years, Disney Gives Iconic Coaster a LGBTQIA+ Pride Makeover

For the third consecutive year, Disneyland Resort’s iconic Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coaster received a vibrant, rainbow-inspired makeover to celebrate Pride Month. The beloved ride, a fixture at the original Southern California Disney park for over six decades, got a stunning rainbow projection during the Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite events held on June 16 and 18, 2025.

Disneyland’s After Dark: Pride Nite event, now in its third year, is a family-friendly celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community held after Disneyland Park closes. This year’s event brought even more magic to the park, with exclusive entertainment, character meet-and-greets, and new and returning themed food and beverage items.

The History Behind Pride Nite

The Pride Nite event at Disneyland debuted in 2023, marking a milestone as the first officially sanctioned LGBTQIA+ event at a U.S. Disney park. It followed decades of unofficial Pride events, such as the annual Gay Days gatherings, which began at Walt Disney World Resort in the early 1990s and eventually expanded to Disneyland in 1998. These gatherings, originally unofficial meetups for the LGBTQIA+ community, have grown into major celebrations of inclusivity and unity, with thousands of Disney Parks fans attending each year.

Though rainbow-themed merchandise and food items have been a part of Disneyland Resort’s Pride celebrations for years, Pride Nite marked the park’s first commitment to officially honoring the LGBTQIA+ community with a full event. The after-hours gathering includes exclusive entertainment, character meet-and-greets, special photo opportunities, and, of course, shorter wait times for the park’s attractions.

During this year’s Pride Nite, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, one of Disneyland Park’s most iconic attractions, was illuminated with a stunning rainbow projection. This wasn’t the first time Disney transformed the ride for Pride celebrations, but this year’s design was a fresh take on the colorful display.

Reddit user u/disneyfacts shared an image of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, showing off the beautiful rainbow hues that lit up the mountain during the event:
