This year’s new Disney Legends have just been announced — and yes, they’re celebrities you’ve heard of — but D23 has also announced that this year’s D23 Expo opening ceremony will be particularly “epic” for other reasons!
The opening ceremonies for this year’s D23 Expo (which begins on September 9 and is, as usual, one of the most highly-anticipated Disney events of the year) will include the prestigious Disney Legends Awards ceremony (hosted by Emmy winner Tamron Hall) and will be streamed live for viewers at home who cannot make it to the Walt Disney Company D23 Expo in person.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek has made a statement about the D23 Expo opening ceremony, which will include a preview of Disney’s plans for celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company.
The 100th-anniversary celebration will be called Disney 100 Years of Wonder, and Chapek said the following: “For nearly a century, Disney has been entertaining and inspiring people around the world. I can’t wait to give fans a first look at what we have in store for our hundredth anniversary, and how we’re using this occasion to celebrate all the fans and families who have welcomed Disney into their lives.” Perhaps some tidbits from the Walt Disney Archives will be making an appearance in the preview of Disney 100 Years of Wonder?
This “epic opening ceremony” will already be a must-see, since A-list celebrities will be receiving their Disney Legend Awards (including not one, but four Frozen celebrities!) — but Disney fans will also be excited to see what Disney has planned for its 100th-anniversary project!
There will also be musical performances, and plenty of surprises — not to mention performances from the Broadway cast of Aladdin, The Lion King, and The North American Tour of Frozen!
Time will tell if Caroline Bowman (who made waves with her performance as Elsa) will be showing up as the icy Disney princess on the day! Are you heading to the D23 Expo this September to experience some special surprises, guest appearances from Disney or Marvel celebrities, and to most likely hear some big news related to Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Imagineering, Marvel Studios, the Disney Cruise Line, or the Walt Disney Company in general?
