For some people, it’s all about having money and running in the right social circles. Some people want nothing more than to be in the center of that circle, and they’ll do anything to get there.
The desire for money and fame led one woman from a small town in Russia to lie, cheat, and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from those who trusted her. Her name is Anna Sorokina, AKA Anna Sorokin, AKA Anna Delvey, and she is a convicted felon.

And now, she is set to be one of the contestants on the newest season of Dancing with the Stars.
According to an exclusive report from Page Six, Delvey has been given special permission to travel from New York to Los Angeles to compete in the ballroom dancing show. The fake heiress has been under home confinement since 2022 and is currently waiting to find out if she will be allowed to remain in the country after her house arrest ends.
Delvey shot to infamy in 2018, when her former friend Rachel Williams wrote about their friendship and subsequent falling out. According to Williams, she and Sorokin became incredibly close, traveling together and becoming best friends. However, she said that during a trip to Morocco, Sorokin scammed her out of thousands of dollars, which ultimately cost her her job.
In 2019, a New York jury convicted Sorokin of attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services. The fake German heiress was sentenced to four to twelve years in prison. Multiple television series and documentaries have been made about the con artist, including the hit Netflix show Inventing Anna, which starred Julia Garner as the fake heiress.
Dancing with the Stars has not officially announced its contestants for season 33 and would not comment on the report from Page Six.
A History of Controversial Contestants
Should Anna Sorokin/Anna Delvey appear on Dancing with the Stars, she would not be the first controversial contestant to appear on the reality show. In fact, over its many years, the show has become known for casting people who stir up a lot of drama.
Last year, the show was called out for casting former football pro, Adrian Peterson. In 2013, Peterson was arrested for abusing his two young sons, one of whom was only 4 years old. Peterson admitted that he used a “switch-like” instrument to punish them. He allegedly whipped the children on their legs, arms, buttocks, and genitals. He pleaded no contest in order to avoid jail time.

In 2007, the show caught a lot of heat for casting former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather as part of season five. Mayweather had a well-known violent past, and, in 2002, he pled guilty to two counts of domestic violence and one count of misdemeanor battery.
Then, two years later, he received a one-year suspended jail sentence after being convicted of two misdemeanor battery counts against two women. His legal troubles continued after his time on the show, and he was convicted of beating his former girlfriend in 2011.
Fans have begged Dancing with the Stars to stay out of politics, but they have ignored those pleas. Former Trump White House Press Secretary and former Secretary of Energy Rick Perry have both competed. In fact, former host Tom Bergeron was so upset about Sean Spicer competing that he spoke to ABC executives. Spicer’s inclusion was the beginning of the end, with Bergeron not returning to the show.
