Crown Princess and eventual Queen of Genovia Mia Thermopolis–known to the real world as Anne Hathaway–has officially weighed in on the 2024 United States presidential election. Hathaway spoke out in support of Vice President Kamala Harris at a New York fundraising event.
Early in her acting career, Hathaway starred alongside the legendary Dame Julie Andrews in Disney’s The Princess Diaries (2001) and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). Based on a book series by Meg Cabot, the first film is centered around an average American high schooler who discovers she’s the heir to a European kingdom.
The second film diverts from the plot of Cabot’s novels and sees Mia (Hathaway) return to Genovia after finishing her university studies. She must marry within a month to take on her grandmother’s (Andrews) role as Queen of Genovia all while a mysterious Member of Parliament tries to steal the crown.
For years, rumors swirled about a third Princess Diaries film. Hathaway previously confirmed that a script existed, while Andrews said in 2022 that she felt it was “too late” for a threequel. However, earlier this month, Hathaway confirmed that The Princess Diaries 3 was in development, and she would return to star in and produce the film.
This week, Anne Hathaway again made headlines when she endorsed Kamala Harris for United States president. The Hollywood Reporter shared this clip of her remarks on X (formerly Twitter):

“I just want to say hi; I’m Annie, and I’m a mom,” Hathaway said. “…Also, in case you didn’t know, I am voting for Kamala. Is anybody else here voting for Kamala?”
The crowd erupted in cheers. Fans on social media joked that an official Disney Princess was involving herself in the United States election.
