There are few actresses who evoke the kind of love from people like Disney legend Dame Julie Andrews.

The Sound of Music star has been adored by Disney fans for decades. She first became a member of the Disney family when she starred as the magical nanny Mary Poppins in the 1964 film of the same name. She starred alongside another Disney Legend, Dick Van Dyke.

Since then, she has appeared in a number of Disney films and television shows, including The Princess Diaries (2001), The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), and The Wonderful World of Disney. She also voiced The Narrator in Disney’s Enchanted (2007). She deservingly was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1991.

Ms. Andrews turned 88 on October 1, 2023, and has slowed down in her acting over the past several years. She now does mainly voice work and is known as the voice of Lady Whistledown in the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton.

Julie Andrews Reflects on Life

Ms. Andrews has lived a long and exciting life and, according to recent reports, is “embracing her final days” by enjoying all of life’s simple pleasures and filling her house with some of her favorite music.

Sources spoke to RadarOnline.com and said that Andrews’ is constantly playing some of her favorite show tunes.

“It’s a testament to her enduring love for the art form,” a pal shared. “Every moment in this final chapter is savored with appreciation for life’s simplest yet most profound pleasures.”

The friend told the National Enquirer, “The laughter of loved ones, the fragrance of fresh blossoms, and the timeless refrains of Broadway classics fill her days!”

Princess Diaries 3 Confirmed

In November 2022, Disney confirmed that a third film in the Princess Diaries franchise had been given the green light. The third movie will reportedly focus on the life of Mia Thermopolis — played by Anne Hathaway — as she rules over her kingdom of Genovia.

The reports state that Disney is not looking to create an entirely new story with an entirely new cast, but as of right now, Hathaway has not signed onto the project. However, Hathaway has repeatedly made it clear that she would love to come back to Disney and tell Mia’s new story. We also do not know if Disney is planning on trying to get Chris Pine to return as Nicholas Devereaux.

When we last left Mia, she was being crowned Queen of Genovia and dating Nicholas Devereaux. Pine appears to enjoy working with Disney, as he stars in Disney’s newest film, Wish. Pine is the voice of King Magnifico, the king of Rosas, the Kingdom of Wishes.

Will Julie Andrews Be in Princess Diaries 3?

Sadly, it does not look like Ms. Andrews will return as Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi. Andrews appeared in both The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. In December 2022, Andrews admitted that they had been talking about furthering the story after the second film came out. But she admitted that she thinks it has been too long, and she doesn’t think that it can realistically happen.

At this point, we do know that a script has been written. But that is about it. There has been no casting news, no storyline news, and no potential release time frame.

I totally agree with the previous comments that should the original cast not reprise their roles in the third movie there is no sense in making it. Too many greedy movie makers think because one movie or in this case two were such hits that another version could be added but then they don’t use the original cast. I have never seen a sequel at any number make it work without at least the leads being the original cast. Dame Andrews could return for a short bit as she is elderly (played in the movie) and must be concerned with her health therefore she doesn’t participate in many of the events but instead leaves it to her granddaughter, Ms Hathaway. I do look forward to seeing it, IF it comes to be and I’m a young 60 years old grandma!

  17. It definitely would be wonderful to see Dame Julie Andrews at least in a cameo appearance in Princess Diaries 3. Perhaps just her and “her husband” or just her sitting in a Genova pear orchard relaxing and a few words be said to Mia on how proud she is of her and continued luck, faith in her ruling.
One of the worlds top actresses of all time.. Thank you Julie Andrews for sharing your gift.

  18. Julie Andrews is my absolute film idol. My Mum took me to see Mary Poppins when it came to our local cinema when I was a little girl. From then on Julie Andrews has been the one I’ve admired all my life. We share the same birthday, October 1st, and I learned to sing because I wanted a voice like hers. I now teach singing, and Julie Andrews/ Mary Poppins has always been there in my life. MP was on tv this afternoon and I had to drop everything to watch it, narurally. T. Thank you Julie for being there. 🤗
