Yet Another ‘Jurassic Park’ Coaster: Universal Returns to Old IP for New Project

Universal’s obsession with dinosaurs isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

While you can find plenty of different IPs at Universal’s theme parks, it seems to have a particular affinity for Jurassic Park. At Universal Orlando Resort, the franchise dominates Islands of Adventure, where guests can face the towering T-rex on Jurassic Park River Adventure, let their kids ride Pteranodon Flyers, and brace themselves for the high-speed twists of Jurassic World VelociCoaster.

It’s not just Orlando either. Universal Studios Hollywood boasts Jurassic World: The Ride, Universal Studios Japan offers both Jurassic Park: The Ride and The Flying Dinosaur, and even Universal Studios Singapore’s The Lost World features a Jurassic Park sub-area packed with Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, Canopy Flyer, and Dino-Soarin’. Universal Beijing Resort? They’ve got Jurassic World Isla Nublar and Jurassic Flyers. Dinosaurs are everywhere — and Universal’s not done yet.

Universal’s Next Big ‘Jurassic Park’ Move

Universal recently filed a trademark for “Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster,” hinting at a new ride coming to the upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas. The filing, submitted on March 11, 2025, covers amusement park use, with a clear focus on a roller coaster.

The Universal Kids Resort, currently under construction, is a 97-acre park designed specifically for families with young children. Scheduled to open in 2026, the resort will feature six immersive lands inspired by fan-favorite franchises. Expect to see DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek and Trolls, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Illumination’s Minions, and — of course — Jurassic World.

What sets this new Jurassic World land apart is its tie to the Netflix animated series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. The concept art prominently features Bumpy, the beloved Ankylosaurus from the show, suggesting the area will lean heavily into the kid-friendly chaos of Camp Cretaceous.

For fans of the series, this means a chance to step into the story — but don’t expect anything as intense as VelociCoaster.

Instead, Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster is likely designed as a family-friendly ride. The name may scream prehistoric danger, but this coaster seems tailored for younger thrill-seekers — more of a wild dino dash than a white-knuckle sprint.

Universal’s Big Plans Beyond Texas

Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster and Universal Kids Resort are just a small part of Universal’s larger expansion strategy.

Epic Universe, Universal’s newest theme park, is set to open at Universal Orlando Resort on May 22, 2025. With multiple themed lands — including SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Dragon Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Florida’s third Wizarding World of Harry Potter area — it’s a massive step forward for the resort.

Meanwhile, Universal Horror Unleashed will debut in Las Vegas on August 14, 2025, diving into horror-themed entertainment as part of the Area15 complex.

Globally, Universal Beijing Resort has plans for a second phase, though details remain under wraps. Across the pond, Universal has also acquired 480 acres of land in Bedford, UK, with ongoing discussions about launching its first-ever British theme park.

From kid-friendly coasters to horror-themed haunts, Universal’s momentum shows no signs of slowing. As for the Jurassic Park franchise? It looks like dinosaurs will keep ruling the theme park world for years to come.
