Disney Blocks off Main Street Area at the Magic Kingdom

A section of Main Street, U.S.A., at Magic Kingdom Park has been roped off for weeks. While the work is finally wrapping up, Walt Disney World Resort guests will find the area still inaccessible for just a little longer.

The project began roughly three weeks ago when rope-connected stanchions appeared around a stretch of sidewalk near the Crystal Arts store on Main Street, U.S.A. Disney cast members poured new pavement in one section not long after, but plywood continued to cover an adjacent portion of the walkway in the meantime.

That plywood is now gone. Fresh pavement is visible in its place, and the area remains cordoned off only to allow the surface time to cure before foot traffic returns. WDW News Today shared this photo of the newly patched stretch on Facebook, showing noticeably pinker, newer pavement against the older surrounding surface.

All nearby merchandise locations, including Crystal Arts, have continued operating without interruption throughout the project.

More Patches Could Be Coming

The contrast between the fresh pavement and the rest of the walkway is hard to miss, which may prompt Walt Disney World Resort to continue working through the rest of Main Street, U.S.A., in sections. Disney has not commented publicly on the project, which is standard for routine maintenance of this scale, but the timing makes sense with summer crowds on the horizon and one of the park's most heavily trafficked corridors due for some upkeep.

The other side of the original Central Florida Disney park is seeing far more dramatic construction activity. Work is underway in Frontierland on a new Piston Peak National Park area inspired by Cars (2006), alongside a new Disney Villains land planned for the undeveloped space “beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.”
