‘Blade’ Returns: Disney’s ‘Cursed’ Marvel Movie Finally Gets an Update After Indefinite Delay

Few Marvel projects have experienced a stranger journey than Blade. After years of delays, creative changes, and uncertainty, many fans began to wonder whether the planned reboot would ever leave development.

While the standalone movie still lacks a clear path forward, a new rumor suggests Marvel may finally have plans for the iconic vampire hunter. The update doesn't guarantee Blade's solo film is returning anytime soon, but it does suggest the character remains firmly on Marvel's radar.

A Reboot That Never Found Momentum

Blade already had a successful cinematic legacy before Marvel Studios became involved.

Wesley Snipes made the character famous through his trilogy of vampire-hunting adventures, helping establish Marvel characters as viable movie stars years before Iron Man launched the MCU.

Marvel aimed to continue that legacy when it cast Mahershala Ali as Blade in 2019. The announcement became one of the biggest talking points from San Diego Comic-Con and generated enormous enthusiasm among fans.

However, the excitement quickly gave way to uncertainty.

The project cycled through multiple creative teams and reportedly underwent numerous script revisions. A release originally planned for 2023 never materialized, and Marvel eventually removed the film from its schedule.

For a character who had already been teased within the MCU, the prolonged silence only intensified fan frustration.

Blade May Join Marvel's Biggest Event

The latest discussion surrounding Blade centers on Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel has considered including Blade in the film. While the report remains unconfirmed, it has opened the door to several intriguing possibilities.

Marvel could finally unveil Mahershala Ali's interpretation of the character. That would allow the studio to establish Blade before revisiting plans for a standalone movie.

At the same time, fans have also speculated about another appearance from Wesley Snipes following his return in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

Marvel has already embraced alternate realities and legacy characters through its Multiverse storyline, making either scenario believable.

More Projects Could Be Waiting

Blade's potential future does not appear limited to a single crossover movie.

Rumors continue to point toward a possible Midnight Sons adaptation focused on Marvel's supernatural heroes. Although Marvel has not officially announced the project, Blade consistently appears in discussions about the rumored team.

Moon Knight, Dane Whitman, and Ghost Rider are also frequently connected to those reports, creating a lineup that could introduce an entirely new side of the MCU.

Meanwhile, Marvel has quietly kept Blade active elsewhere.

The character appeared in Marvel Zombies Season 1, although Mahershala Ali did not provide the voice. Instead, Todd Williams voiced the animated version of Blade.

The character's storyline ended when a zombified Thor unleashed a devastating lightning strike, bringing Blade's journey in that universe to a sudden conclusion.

Even though the appearance occurred outside live action, it showed that Marvel remains interested in finding ways to use the character.

Why Secret Wars Could Solve Marvel's Blade Problem

Marvel faces an unusual challenge with Blade.

The studio wants to introduce an important character, but the standalone movie designed to launch him has struggled to reach production. Secret Wars could offer a practical solution.

A supporting role in a major crossover would allow Marvel to establish Blade's place within the MCU without requiring a solo film first. Audiences would have an opportunity to meet the character before Marvel commits to a larger project.

The movie could also capitalize on fan nostalgia by bringing back Wesley Snipes, along with other legacy Marvel heroes from earlier franchises.

Whether Marvel chooses one path or blends both together, Secret Wars could become the project that finally moves Blade forward.

The Wait Continues

For now, Marvel's Blade reboot remains one of the biggest unanswered questions in the MCU.

There is still no official release date, production schedule, or confirmation regarding when Mahershala Ali will make his debut. Even so, the latest reports suggest Marvel has not abandoned the character.

After years of setbacks, that may be enough to keep fans hopeful that the Daywalker will eventually find his place in the MCU.
