Marvel fans know the next few years are going to reshape the MCU completely. Between Doctor Doom’s arrival, the growing Multiverse storyline, and several returning legacy characters, Marvel Studios is preparing for one of the largest crossover events the franchise has ever attempted.
Right now, most attention remains focused on Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is expected to bring together heroes from nearly every corner of Marvel’s universe as the Multiverse Saga finally starts moving toward its biggest payoff.
But even with Doomsday still ahead, many fans are already trying to figure out what comes next in Avengers: Secret Wars.
A newly surfaced casting update may have just offered the biggest clue yet.

Marvel’s Upcoming Cast List Keeps Growing
The lineup attached to Avengers: Doomsday already feels stacked.
Robert Downey Jr. officially returns to Marvel as Doctor Doom, while Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor. Letitia Wright remains part of the MCU’s future as Shuri’s Black Panther, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki continues playing a major role in the Multiverse story.
Marvel is also bringing back Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie as Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson.
Then there are the Multiverse additions.
Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and James Marsden’s Cyclops are both expected to appear as Marvel expands deeper into alternate realities and legacy franchises. Add in connections to the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts, and Marvel’s crossover plans already look enormous.
Naturally, fans expected the newest Secret Wars update to involve another major actor reveal.
That’s not what happened.

Marvel’s Casting Update Was Surprisingly Small
A recent casting call tied to Avengers: Secret Wars surfaced online through All Casting, but it didn’t include any famous names.
Instead, the production appears to be seeking everyday performers to fill out massive scenes throughout the movie.
The listing included enhanced beings, fighters, scientists, civilians, military personnel, and survivors. Applicants aged 18 to 60, from all backgrounds, were encouraged to apply.
For some fans, the update felt a little anticlimactic. Marvel fans have spent months hoping for surprise casting announcements for returning heroes and variants from across Marvel history.
Still, the update may say far more about the movie than people initially realized.
Reports suggest Secret Wars will begin production in August, giving Marvel additional time to prepare compared to the tighter schedule surrounding Avengers: Endgame (2019). That slower pace could help Marvel avoid some of the rushed production issues fans criticized in previous MCU projects.

The Casting Descriptions May Reveal Battleworld Plans
The most interesting part of the update comes from the actual roles Marvel appears to be casting.
Many fans expect Secret Wars to adapt Battleworld from Marvel Comics, where Doctor Doom rules over a reality formed from fragments of destroyed universes.
That idea suddenly makes the casting call much more interesting.
The civilians, survivors, and military roles could represent different groups trapped inside Battleworld after incursions destroy multiple realities. Meanwhile, the scientist roles may hint at characters helping maintain Doom’s fragile world behind the scenes.
The enhanced beings and fighters stand out the most.
Those descriptions strongly imply massive action scenes involving superpowered characters from multiple realities. Some may fight for Doom, while others could form resistance groups trying to challenge his control over Battleworld.
That setup would also create the perfect excuse for Marvel to introduce countless variants and multiversal cameos throughout the movie.

Secret Wars Could Become Marvel’s Largest Movie Yet
Marvel already tested this style of storytelling in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which leaned heavily into alternate characters and legacy Marvel actors.
Fans believe Secret Wars could take that formula to an entirely different level.
If Marvel fully embraces Battleworld, almost any Marvel character from any timeline could potentially appear. That possibility alone explains why fans continue obsessing over every small update tied to the project.
And while this latest casting call looked simple at first glance, it may actually reveal just how large Marvel plans to make Avengers: Secret Wars before it arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027.
