California governor Gavin Newsom was recently called out for his celebratory announcement about Disneyland Forward by fans online.

Undoubtedly, one of the best parts of going to a Disney Park is the chance to experience beloved Disney sights and attractions, old and new. Whether it’s enjoying a sunny day out in Mickey’s Toontown enjoying Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, hopping on classic theme park attractions like Space Mountain or enjoying a new ride like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the Disney Parks offer a lot to would-be guests.

However, while there’s a lot to love about Disney Parks, there’s one catch: it’s becoming increasingly difficult to afford a Disney vacation.

The price of going to either the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland has shot up in recent years. This is common knowledge to all Disney fans. Whether it’s theme park ticket prices or it’s the simple cost of food and beverages at any Disney Park, being able to comfortably afford a Disney vacation is becoming increasingly difficult.

The situation has gotten serious enough that even the Walt Disney Company and Disney CEO Bob Iger have admitted to this reality. Now, acknowledging that Disney is purportedly trying to right these price rises by offering discounts to locals and special packages to select guests, the reality is that going to Disneyland is still a faraway dream for many.

This is especially true in light of the fact that many can afford even less than an indulgent vacation at the moment, as some fans reminded California Governor Gavin Newsom.

As many avid Disney fans would know, the DisneylandForward project was approved by the Anaheim City Council, thereby allowing Disney to realize some of its most fantastical ideas for the Southern California Disney Park.

In celebration of this upcoming theme park expansion, the governor of the Golden State took to X to share the good news, writing, The Happiest Place on Earth is expanding in CA with a huge $1.9 billion investment. More rides, more restaurants, and more hotels contributing to our economy. It’s no mistake this expansion is in CA — our values of equality, decency, and freedom help make up Disney’s magic.”

But in truth, not everyone was as optimistic as the governor. One fan, quoting the governor’s post, commented, Oh please!!!! We can’t even afford gas, & you expect us to go to Disneyland.”

Many others also took the opportunity to remind the governor that all was not hunky dory in the state, and the governor’s post unfortunately led to a negative response on the social media platform.

Despite this, its true that many are looking forward to the expansion of Disneyland and particularly many of the new promised attractions and lands that guests will be able to enjoy in coming years.

For now, irrespective of whether one agrees with Governor Newsom or not, exciting things lie ahead for Disney!

Are you looking forward to the expansion coming to Disneyland?
