The One Covid Policy Guests Want Disney World to Keep

As we continue to enjoy the post-pandemic magic at Walt Disney World, one COVID-19 policy has remained that many guests have been pleasantly surprised to see. While most of us are thrilled to see the pandemic’s impact fade, some Disney fans are actually happy to see a specific character interaction policy continue.

The Legacy of COVID-19 Safety Measures

The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped countless aspects of daily life, including the way we interact with Disney characters at Walt Disney World. One notable change was the introduction of fencing and grassy areas around certain character meet-and-greet spots.

This measure, which started during the pandemic to enforce social distancing, turned out to offer a new twist on character interactions that some guests now appreciate.

A recent inquiry from a Disney fan online asked, “Why do some characters stay behind fencing in grassy areas?” Other Disney enthusiasts chimed in, explaining that this policy, initially implemented for health and safety reasons, has proven to be a charming addition.

“It’s started during Covid but ended up being a pleasant surprise,” one guest shared. “It’s much easier to manage the characters when guests can’t approach them directly.”

The Benefits of Fencing and Grassy Areas

The added distance has given Disney characters more freedom to perform and entertain, moving beyond the traditional interactions of standing in one place for hugs and autographs. “It also gives the characters WAY more freedom to perform and entertain people,” another fan noted. This setup allows characters to engage with guests in a more dynamic way, creating a magical experience that’s both safe and entertaining.

Character Interactions in 2024

As of 2024, guests at Walt Disney World can still enjoy close interactions with their favorite characters. You can hug, take pictures, and get autographs from many beloved Disney characters throughout the parks.

Character Dining and Meet ‘n’ Greets

While reservations aren’t required for character meet-and-greets, Disney highly recommends character dining experiences for a guaranteed, immersive encounter with your favorite heroes and villains.

Additionally, you might spot characters during parades, cavalcades, and casual strolls through the parks.

  1. I think of all the Covid restrictions, the one I miss is the 6 foot between people one. Maybe we don’t need 6 feet anymore but I could certainly see 3 feet so people are not on top of me and I am not too close to them.

  2. I think one thing that needs to go back to pre covid. Is the reservations to get into the parks. I hate making reservations. The park is still to crowded and so it is not working. Just let us go back to show up and get in and cut back on how many passes you sell. That is when it went crazy with crowds.
